Panel below windshield leaks/ causing wheelwell rust...

#1

Post by purvisgs »

I don't know what to call it, but the removable panel that the windshield wipers go through, just below the windshield, with 2 "vents" in it seems to be what has caused both of my front wheelwells to rust out on the front outside seams.

It seems that water that enters this compartment drains in 2 places: either into the engine compartment (through the hood hinge areas) or inside (towards the body) the piece of plastic wheelwell trim. Below this wheelwell trim (and the very forward edges of the floorboards) is exactly where my truck has rusted the most.

I have cleaned out all the junk in the area and flushed it out with a garden hose to follow the water's path...

could anyone describe how this area is supposed to drain?

any solutions to keep the water away from this most critical area?

thank you!

It's called the cowl.

(I am looking for a non-rusty cowl and straight/rust-free hood for the "Arlington Truck", in case anybody nearby has these. None at the Lakewood JY.)

I cannot propose a fix for your rustout problem. The water must drain somewhere, and I don't see a way to redirect it.
