The donor harness is half-way in. Anyone know of someone who needs some connector snubs or any parts of the old one?

For those of you just tuning in, I pulled the entire harness from the front of the "Bellingham Truck", for Andy's truck. Took me about two hours, and I can tell you that the bits behind the heater core area are not fun, not if you want to do it without cutting. If you have A/C, you must either bend the evap tubes or remove the evap to get the harness out.

Andy, I may have an ignition assy with keys if you want/need one. It's from a Maxima, but they interchange fine. [edit: they lock the column OK and work electrically, but the surround plastic won't fit.]. I pull them at JYs whenever I can find one with a keycode in the GB for it. And I'd love to sell you that blue dash from the rusty '82, just to keep it from becoming damaged, now that it's pulled. I have to scrap that truck out soon.

Glad to hear there's progress on your bio-ride.

If you want a pic, I've got to go out to it this weekend and get some rockers off the "Vashon Truck" for Dave, and the "Bellingham Truck" is parked next to it. This is what I wrote about it to Andy back in October:
Oooh . . . the dash is nearly perfect on this truck. It's blue. The only bad part is the butchery that was done on the radio hole, it's chopped out for a modern DIN-size radio so a stock one wouldn't fit now, but not a single crack on the top at all! Want me to take a pic? I could get Peter to make you a good deal on it, and it's already pulled, and I'm sure he doesn't want to store it -- it's not the same as the '86 "Arlington Truck", and it's the wrong color too.
Regards,
Al S.

I'm in for both. Can you hold 'em for me until after the first of the year? I'd like to get the dash and the ignition. Xmas gifts and a daughter have me in the end'o the year bind.

Pics of the lock I'll be sending you are here.

I probably won't get a chance to go fetch the dash until after Christmas, the way this week is shaping up. I was going to do it this weekend, but got major sidetracked.

Do you recall that charade I went thru to get the RIGHT ignition switch (not the lock) for my truck because it has a colum lock? 1978 or 1980 SUBARU!

I crated and shipped the dash to Andy this week. After closer inspection, it turned out to be not the near-perfect thing I'd recalled: there are scratches, and one tear above the glovebox knob.

Weight of the crated dash was 31 lbs. and cost $61 to ship from the PNW to AZ. As you can see, I'm no carpenter!

In spite of many hours of work on that crating job, the dash still arrived with some damage.

And Andy found that although the Maxima lock assy will bolt up to the 720 steering column, and it locks the column OK, and works electrically, the surrounding plastic won't fit. The angle of (something) and the size of (something) prevent the plastic from fitting. I've sent him a real 720 Ign. assy. instead. When I get the Maxima one back from him (it was my last one), I'll put them side-by-side and update this thread.

Al, you're still the man! That crate was a work of art!

I believe the fit issue to be the angle of the shank that the lock cylinder is perched upon (720 sits at more of a 3 o'clock position and the Max seemed to go a bit towards 2 o'clock)and that the face plate is slightly larger (metal part that has ACC, ON, START written on it).

I could have sworn that the faceplate diameter is the same. I looked in my rekey kit for these old Datsuns, there are only three styles in those years and they sure as heck looked the same dia. I'll be very interested to get that Maxima one back, just so I can put it next to a 720 one.
