No 401k. NBR is too slanted but Bloomberg is helpful.

"As Oil Nears $100, Look Out Below"

NBR might be slanted, but there isn't anything out there that you can't take with a grain of salt. Of the three you listed I prefer forbes and bloomberg.

Bloomberg also has an article from Friday about the fall from $100 / barrel oil, but that's not necessarily an indicator of what pump price might be although if the decline were significant enough we ought to see it reflected at the pump. Problem is oil companies like the fuel prices we have right now, a lot.

Again, as Al said, we've known is this coming and the majority of the country still went out and bought Suburbans, so there ya have it.

I still like my idea about at cash slot in the dash of the vehicle that forces people to insert money every time they've used a gallon out of the tank. Think that would make people pay attention?

Friends of mine came to Des Moines yesterday and during our lunch they admitted that their fuel bill was up to $800 / month and they live only 2 miles from town but they have a 16yo son who drives and they have a Cadillac and a Suburban....ouch!

VISA.

I recall the English driver instructor who said the best way to get people slowed down is to have a 4" stake in the center of the steering wheel ... facing the driver. Bloody good!

When your "friends" hurt enough, they will "adjust."

Fed helps fuel high gas prices

For the first time I saw a price difference of $0.80 between gasoline and diesel fuel. That questions the economy of driving a diesel powered car.

Here are fuel prices for this area. Gas is $1.259/L ( approx $4.77/ US gal) and diesel is $1.339 (approx $5.07 US gal). $1.00 Ca = $0.98 USD/ $1.00 USD= $1.0168 Ca. (as of yesterday the 24th) It's friggen expensive :!: :!: Bought 55 L yesterday for my Nissan and it was $73.65!! OUCH :!: :!:  Our 2006 Impala is now cheaper to drive than the Diesel Nissan. Go figure

Around San Francisco diesel costs about 13% more than regular. The 82 Max wagon seems to get about 27% better mpg daily than the Ford Taurus I had; on a long highway trip it'll have less advantage. TBD.

Anybody know any functional reason for the higher relative diesel prices? Is our diesel refinery capacity really so limited that Hummers in Iraq are taking it all?

"Allegedly" (so we in the Great White North are led to believe), it is because the eastern part of North America, in particular eastern Canada and North eastern USA had such a cold winter that the refinery that produces heating oil is the same refinery(ies) (process?) that produces diesel. Supply and demand. The oil companies would not unnecessarily "gouge" the consumer in order to make even more money :?: :?: Would they :?:  Go ahead and ask them :!:

Exxon makes $1,300 per second

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Exxon Mobil made history on Friday by reporting the highest quarterly and annual profits ever for a U.S. company, boosted in large part by soaring crude prices.

Exxon, the world's largest publicly traded oil company, said fourth-quarter net income rose 14% to $11.66 billion, or $2.13 per share. The company earned $10.25 billion, or $1.76 per share, in the year-ago period.
I'm sure this isn't gouging, though

Higher fuel prices should encourage conservation, innovation and technical progress toward greater fuel efficiency. Unfortunately, with the oil companies price fixing, they can undermine these efforts by dropping the price whenever they want.

OPEC has done this to our domestic oil producers for decades.

I used to work for exxon mobil and took part in their stock option program. When the fuel prices started getting crazy about 2 years ago I started to bitch...until I got the dividend check  However about a year ago prices started really going up again yet my stock went down. BOOOOO. But the stock is starting to build back up again.

it was really interesting 6-8 months ago when diesel was climbing and biodiesel had been the same for over a year and the price shoppers started trying the bio and things were looking great. then in the same 2 weeks diesel dropped and bio shot up and we all found out that methanol(part of the methoxide mixed with the fatty acid to make the methyl ester we call biodiesel) was a petroleum product!

its really crazy delivering heating oil(off road diesel) and having to charge over $4/gal. i've been getting a new price sheet every day lately. heating oil was under $1 in '04.

with the speculators talking $200/barrel crude by the end of the year which translates into $6-7/gal gas and already people are stealing gas and power lines

-the zombies really are coming.

and then i realize i've got nothing i can eat growing on my property and no diesel stored somewhere and no commodities in hand and no current way to produce any.

sh*t -i'm gonna be a zombie too!

have you ever been hungry waiting for something to grow so you can eat it?

then i hear a few people talking about what crude prices are gonna be and they say it with such a disconnect to what that means even for themselves let alone our society. i'm starting to run into smart truckers who got out and found other jobs. while at night i fill up yards full of trucks with diesel and see the independants that are still in it plodding along resigned to their fate, apathetic, putting their best face on.

and i just keep driving my tanker full of diesel thats worth more every day making money thats worth less every day. wondering when some zombie is going to take me out for a few gallons of heating oil.

yesturday i sold heating oil for $4.52/gal. and thats for the automatic keep full customers with accounts. it's jumped 20cents in 2 days.

sequential's new plant is being built to use ethanol instead of methanol for making biodiesel. they would be buying it from pacific ethanol which is right here on the willamette in portland. so we would be hauling either veg oil or ethanol down to salem and biodiesel back. -nice-. i wonder if they will drop the price once their up and runnning. b99 is up to $5.22/g retail at the pump.

Winter is over in the eastern part of the continent and the Diesel price is still climbing. What's the next excuse :x
One thing I would suggest to the next president:
put a 300% tax on fuel exports!

price of fuel has jumped here AU$160 l with diesel increasing the refinery margin 4 times that of ULP.diesel is used for frieght so food goes up.
its claimed that the price--based on singapore-- is increasing here due to india and in usa/europe due to the driving season.

LPG is dropping in price and the new government kept its $2000 instalation grant.

I think raising the price of diesel here is to reduce the sales of small diesel suv that is booming,30% of australian fleet is now diesel and 50% is easy to achieve if allowed.ford has been talking about falcon diesels and holden has been testing, they both claim that the price increases has stopped the case for diesels.

bio fuels/alt fuels
i was talking to a fleet manager for the road traffic authority.they tested all types of fuel in there fleet and repoted to the public giving it the thumbs up.
he was telling me that the reports he read dont add up but it was done scientifically.he was telling me in this region that he was controlling the maintanence of with new cars designed for alt fuels, when used on long trips it got to a point that they didnt know/trust a car would travel the distance with fuel filter or fuel componant failures and the fleet cars using normal fuels had to be chosen to do important trips.

I am presently in Eastern Canada ( Southern Ontario) and the price of Diesel, where I am is $1.39/L as it jumped .05 overnight. Its nuts. The reports here (if you can believe them) is that it's speculators and hedge fund types that are driving the prices now. There was one report here that "speculation" alone is responsible for $30.00 of the current price of oil. If things keep going at this pace (here at least) then $2.00/L gasoline will arrive befor labour day. :( :( :( Who knows about diesel fuel :!: :!: $2.50/L or more :?: :?: I watched a story last night about re-sales of older "fuel effiecient" cars. There was a report of a 15 year old Geo or Suzuki Swift or some such car that sold for $7200.00 USD :!: . a full $200.00 over its original $7000.00 MSRP. Hybrids are selling for as much as $3000.00 over MSRP, and dealerships are taking credit card sales over the phone and selling sight and test drive unseen. MADDNESS :!: :!:
