Diesel Purging????

I was goofing around you tube and came across a commercial for this stuff called Liqui Moly Diesel Purge, you can buy this product at Dieselgiant.com Apparently you put it in ahead of the fuel system I saw the commercial for it at

I don't know if I'm retarded for not knowing what this is or maybe its just snake oil, any knowlege

I've heard a lot of people advocate for Diesel Purge. Two years ago I bought two cans of it and ran them through my '82 Wagon. Summary: no change.

I was hoping for less visible smoke. I still have half a can left, I think. I don't know that I'd recommend the stuff -- but others have said it helped them.

I don't think the stuff can hurt.

Used correctly, you have to use the "pop bottle" method and disconnect both supply and return lines, run the engine on the stuff straight.

I'm an old Merc driver myself but have never used the stuff. I'm suspisious of most all that snake oil stuff.

I've tried lots of other stuff...but how does anyone ever really know what it really does unless you pull an injector or what ever it's supposed to clean, closely inspect the part, re-install WITHOUT cleaning, run a can of the snake oil, remove part again and see if it's clean.

I did the pop bottle mainline w/ Seafoam-- little or no results. I didn't like the idea of feeding something to the IP unfiltered.

Possible that the Merc design is more susceptible to CC/injector buildup.

I don't think the designs are all that different...

But I think expecting a bottle to magically undo 20+ years of build-up is stretching it quite a bit. Plus, what exactly is getting built up anyway? Isn't fuel a pretty good solvent/cleaner in it's own right?

Appears that the Merc owners use it a lot to fix a "nailing" problem that can occur from carbon buildup on the injector pintle that reduces its effectiveness to seal between injection events, fuel drips into the CC at the wrong time (affecting apparent timing), causes nailing sound.

I wounder if every diesel has this carbon build up problem?

What was done before this kind of cure in a bottle stuff?

Or has diesel fuel been improved over the decades to burn cleaner, or at least leave less carbon deposits or have additives...much like many of the gas companies claim in their commercials?

Or regular use of PS Diesel products or the like?

You got it. My '82 Maxima FSM lists maint. operation for Clean Injector Tips every 15,000 miles (p. MA-3) and refers to p. MA-27 but the real procedures show up on pp. EF-43-45. Uses a specialized cleaning toolkit that contains brushes, reamers, scrapers, etc. Almost dental.

Or use a cleaner-burning fuel, such as biodiesel that meets or exceeds ASTM spec D6751
