Hi there forum,

I was wanting to get information on turbocharging my non turbo RD28 in my R31 skyline to improve economy and get a bit more power.
So far have been unsuccessful in finding specific info regarding this conversion. Im sure someones done it!?

Is this possible to do to a non turbo RD28 diesel motor?
What steps to i need to take with upping fuel?
How much boost can I run safely so i know?
Small intercooler or no intercooler?
Oil feeds and return?

I have left over parts from my rb20det conversion in my R30 skyline that used to be powered by the great L20et lol. i have a T3 nissan turbo from an Rb20 and i understand the deal with exhaust manifold but should be able to sort something out.
an RD28T one is a difficult option as im not sure if they ever came to new zealand.

Currently motor is standard with 160,000kms on the clock.
Any information would help greatly.

Thanks guys!

RD28T is only fitted to patrol and some laurel.most are electric control IP.

R31GTD is an early version of RD28.the turbo is special built version
oil feed to main bearing is suspect and cyl head sealing is poor.

MY GTD has no oil cooler or oil jets under the pistons.patrol has originally small turbo similar or smaller to a RB20ET uses a 3 bolt flange but i think the boost is stonger than the RB20DET.petrol manifolds dont fit.oil return uses a heater water outlet screwed into the alt oil return nipple.[T piece with 2 sizes of hose]

a boost compensator can be fitted from most other nissans but patrol mechanical IP is straight swap.

Ive GTD excell sitting in parts in christchurch,my freind was going to box up some bits-sometime.

RD28T sell under $K with troubles and 1.6K n good condition.mnot seen any since before christmas.

I could swear there is a rd28t that is mechanical injection and the rd28ti is electronic injection.

For the post EMP zombiepocalypse, I would prefer the mechanical version.

From the best of my knowledge, there are four RD28 engines:

1) RD28 L6 with 12 valves, aspirated, mec injected.
2) RD28 L6 with 18 valves, aspirated (mine), mec injected.
3) RD28T L6 with 18 valves, turbo, mec injected.
4) RD28Ti L6 with 18 valves, turbo, electronic injection.

only 12 valve 6 cyl.sold locally in NA/turbo mechanical or electric trottle control.

some other japanese petrol enjines have a valve added for the egr system.an engine i have has a pipe running along the side of the head -i assumed it was for steam/coolant like the later skylines.
