On Pg EF-44 of the FSM under the Assembly heading they show a tool (KV11292010), does anyone know what this tool is for. Also does anyone know of a substitute?

FSM calls it a nozzle centering device [p. EF-48]. Tool centers the injector nozzle in the injector body (or: to use the terminology from the prev. page in the FSM-- centers the nozzle body in the nozzle nut).

Substitute? Don't know. I didn't have one, so I eyeballed it. Are you planning on rebuilding the injectors?

I currently have three of them out of the engine and cleaned one but wasn't exactly sure that I had the holes on the distance piece, push rod and nozzle body (pg. EF-43:FSM) lined up correctly. Should I be concerned, I don't find anything in the manual about lining these up but it just seems like they should be lined up. When you rebuilt yours did you align these holes? I think I will follow suit with your needle alignment method.

Moderator, can we move this into a more appropriate thread? Let's avoid confusing future visitors by separating strictly injector content from glowplug content.

I did not line up the holes. Did someone tell you it was important? I did stay fastidious about cleanliness during the rebuild process.

Here is a good tutorial on injector rebuilding:

You will want a pop tester to verify pop pressure, spray pattern, and leakage, and extra heat shields for reinstallation. The copper washers you can re-anneal w/ a propane torch (get them cherry red).

Might as well do them all, get them equalized-- unbalanced will cause problems.
