Used Motor oil added to fuel.
Hello,Thought i would tell about my experience of adding a quart of used synthetic motor oil to my fuel.
let me say i've been adding fuel conditioner to the tank at every fill up since I bought the car.
I know a lot of people do this but for those who haven't its well worth a try.
Having 7 cars there is a lot of used motor oil in 5 qt jugs here at the house.Disposing at the local auto parts store is a bit of an inconvenience so i have been dumping 1 qt.per tankfull before filling up.
The only brand Of oil Ive used in the last 29 years is Amsoil so it seemed a waiste to just send it off to the recycler.
The car never ran better(honestly)No extra smoke from the tail pipe that i can see.And the car returned the best mileage in 4 years.35.6 average in the last 6 fillups. It had gotten 34ish mileage before when the wind was at my back in the past but usually was in the 29 to 31 mpg range.
The engine feels stronger than ever.Cetane boosters never did this.
Of course one must take great care when draining the used motor oil at oil changes to keep contaminents out.
Anyone else get a positive experience from adding used synthetic motor oil to the diesel fuel?
best regards,Chris

Not synthetic, but I have been adding filtered drain oil to my fuel for 2 years now. About 5% in one of the trucks tanks, up to 25%--depending on temperature --to the other. Start on the 5%, run on th other, switch back a few miles before shutdown.
I built a 50" riding mower, with a single cylinder air cooled 10HP Petter diesel, and it would start and run on 50-50--the limiting factor seeming to be in that case the fact that the fuel was too "thick" to get through the IP, with only the force of 1 foot of gravity head. It would start with a higher percentage and a full tank but when the fuel level got down to about 12" of head it would start running out of fuel. An electric pump would probably have helped, but it was retired, and replaced with a 72"--which will get a VW diesel transplant this winter.
I found that engines run smoother (slower combustion?) and have at least as much power with the mix--never tried to figure out fuel "mileage"

If it wasn't for the heavy metals in the used lube oil, it's not a bad idea.
I don't like pollution, where I live or elsewhere, so I scratched the idea of burning used lube oil in my diesel, years ago.
Unlike SVO though, it won't harm the IP or engine. May even run cleaner than SVO.

I've ran my last 3 trucks on 85% WMO, the glow plug engines have a little more difficulty starting on it, but once warmed up you couldn't tell they're running on anything but diesel. I started out with a GM6.2L, then to my now current 96 12valve Cummins and also ran it on my IDI 7.3L Turbo International in my 93 F350 CCLB. I also ran it in the Maxima for about a month before I tore it all down to swap it into the ZX, I noticed a little more power and of course a little more black smoke on heavy acceleration since at 85% its a bit thicker than diesel. I filter it down to 5 micron and let it settle for 6 months(you don't have to let it settle that long but I have tons of stock so I can) and cut it with 15% Unleaded gas to thin it down and my trucks have been lovin it for the last 4 years.

Changing your own oil is a great idea but don't store your used oil in the garage in containers that could leak or where it will eventually be thrown away. Take it to one of your local recycling centers and let them dispose of the used motor oil correctly.
