Hey, I finally have my truck running! Had to wire up the glow plugs to work on a switch but it starts now. Onto the next orders of business:
What is the procedure for replacing the fuel filter?
What is the oil capacity for an SD25 (never came with an owners manual)?
How big are the fuel tanks on these trucks? My fuel gauge doesn't work.
Say I do run it out of fuel...what do I need to do? Bleed the system? How does one do that? Or can I just prime the pump?
Thanks in advance!
My truck is an SD25 by the way

Oil Capacity is 7L with filter.
Fuel tank is 60L Usually go about 600 K and put in 50L
I find it easier to remove the entire fuel filter housing with the water trap and all in tact from the truck. It's not as messy although takes a bit more time. I wash out the water trap and install a new filter at that time. You may want to pre fill both the filter and the trap when you reinstall it. Then open the small bleeder at the top on the filter side of the housing and use the pump on the top to pump the air out. Once the truck is started let it idle for a few minutes till the idle smooths out. The system is self purging so eventually all the air will be removed on its own. It may take a few miles for this to happen and the easiest way to tell if its all gone it to press on the primer pump. If its spongey then there is still some air in the system and you may get the odd engine miss from time to time. Eventually that primer will become hard and will be like pressing on a rock and not move at all.

changing fuel filters
I never prefill any fuel filters. on the nissans use the priming pump on the fuel infection pump. On all my other diesel I used a hand vacuum pump to fill the filter by evacuating on the outlet hose. I never have unfiltered fuel heading to the high pressure pump this way. Just did the jetta the other day.

I always pre fill my fuel filters, cuts down using the primer pump so much. fill the new filter with ATF or Diesel Purge, then screw it on. hit the primer pump a few licks and you are good to go.
Using ATF or Diesel Purge from a new unopened can, it will be clean. I would not use diesel to fill the filter from a can/bottle etc... that has been open or filled at the fueling station. too much of a chance of contaminates getting dumped in the filters.
I have 3 MB diesels and the Sd-22 that I have owened the past 29 yrs. so guess it works.
