Top end oiling

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Top end oiling

So, I have run into this very bizarre problem. I got a new whole engine, rebuilt it, but it seems that there is not any oil reaching the rocker arm, resulting in the valve getting stuck once already (hopefully with no hidden damage, the valve and piston surprisingly look ok).

The hole that the oil comes out of, present on both the old and new blocks:

the hole that the oil goes into, on the old head:

And the new head, which is lacking the hole

How could this happen??

Where did you find the engine that you rebuilt?
Do you have an SD22 or 25 ?
Had it been running in whatever it was taken from.
It appears that the head may be from a different application ( forklift or something ) .
Perhaps it was changed and the same thing happened to the engine you got and they just sold it.?
Is there an oil inlet at the opposite end of it perhaps ?
Definitely a head scratcher,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and a piss off too. Messed up a head gasket.
The "new" head appears to be "more different" than just the oil hole as well.

Problem with being retired is that you never get a day off.
