SD2x Glow plug information

The SD engines' GPs are 10mm dia. on the head end, and 4mm on the terminal end. Some mfgrs supply plain 4mm terminal nuts (usually 7mm across the flats) and a spring washer, others supply a flanged nut, and still others a knurled OD nut that is larger overall.

Quick-start type

Quick-start type glow plugs are a type of sheathed glow plug that have a heating curve whose resistance changes with the temperature. The resistance is initially low so that plenty of current flows through the heating curve. The temperature increases faster than in standard plugs – and as a result the preheating time reduces.

Note 5: The BA catalog lists the older 176-1034 part for 1986, for 1984-5 they list 176-1040, and I think it likely that 176-1040 is the correct part for 1986 as well -- not 176-1034.

I guess you do not reccomend the use of the Delphi GP for the quick glow systems?

I will try and find a web site for them. I ordered them through GCL Fuel Systems in Calgary Alberta which are dealers for http://www.delphidiesel.com/lao_us.htm
I cant remember if they simply cross referenced the NGK's to Delphi or looked for specific application.. I also have a set of GPs here that have a Japanese symbol of some sort on them and simply 3Z stamped onto the body of them. They are rated at 11.0 V and am not certain where my dad got them. I also have a set of NGK Y705RS (8672) plugs that are also rated at 11.0V. As mentioned earlier the Delphi ones are HDS283's and have that "Crayon" type tip to them. I have had them in there for 2 years now and so far so good. I will continue to try and find a cross reference list. I had a full set of the Y-112Rs! ( 1132) but 2 of them blew up and that is why I got the Delphi's.

I got my hands on some new glow plugs, made in Japan, brand is HKT.

I had 2 that were non-functional, so I picked up these 4 new ones for about $15/each.

anyone have any experience with these? On the glow plug itself is stamped "Japan HKT PN-123 11v"
