Free in Maine, CN4-33 block. You pick up....soon.

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Free in Maine, CN4-33 block. You pick up....soon.

Very soon. It's hanging in my garage and has to go as I await a few gaskets .

I'll be posting pics and notes of the switch soon, in the mean time, I did some post mortem work on the old CN4-33 to try to see what wasn't right.

There was an odd slap or hitch like sound and movement at each revolution of the crank. After removing the pan, I think I could see two major problems. One, when piston 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 were at TDC, I could turn the crank by hand about 5 degrees either way withought moving the pistons. That sure sounds like the bearings are worn.

Also, when at TDC when this slop is easy to turn back and forth, I notice the timing gears weren't moving in this 5 or so degree play. I could see the main timing gear was freewheeling this 5 degrees as well. I can't understand that one, isn't there a keyway?

It was easy to compare these movements to the newer SD22 on the floor. There is no play at TDC in the crankshaft. And there is no play in the timing gears (I have both IPs off right now awaiting gaskets).

Any ideas about this above play? Also, should I pull the head to keep for any reason if I end up disposing of the block?

So I don't think this block is too valuable but here it is, in Maine if there's any interest.

Yes, in fact it's set up for three pulleys.

They are drilled and tapped to add them as needed. At this point, I'm not positive I will not need them in the future though. I may add something such as an alternator that requires two belts.

Do you need the CN4-33 pulleys or can you just use the SD-22 2 pulley set up?

I can answer that: he's looking to do a retrofit of an SD22 to a D21 and wants to retain the D21's PS. He needs any second sheave to run the PS pump's belt. The SD22 double sheave (used on A/C and/or PS equipped SDs) is ideal.
