Knock-off Mirror fix

#1

Post by rlaggren »

I did it and then couldn't find my spare (!).

Punched a slug out of a metal electrical box - 3/4" I think but didn't measure cuz I was in a rush. Drilled a hole in the center a little smaller than the original screw and coaxed the screw into it mostly straight. Sprayed some contact glue on the slug to keep it there during the bracket install and screwed the bracket back up tight trapping the slug under (try to make sure it's centered); installed the mirror tight with the screw into the hole in the slug. It will rotate on the screw axis a little if pushed but stays put w/no vibration when left to itself. Sunshades clip in fine, no visible evidence of kludge.

Cheers, Rufus

I didn't check, but I think a US quarter might work, also - has the advantage of availability for some of use. <g>

[gasp!]
But . . . that's . . . illegal!

Pennies & quarters are great quick-fix washers, just add a hole.
