I'll let everybody know what I find out. If I find the seal by itself I will buy several and offer the extra here. If this seal had an OD of 30 or 32, it would already be on the way. 31 is a bit of an oddball, naturally. I would buy the Bosch kit if I knew the dimensions were right. Maybe somebody with some standing on a TDI board could ask dimensions there?

The 31mm OD is what is killing this. So far the only way to get Viton in this size is to have Harwall do a custom run - 300 seal minimum. I'll keep looking. Local diesel shop has offered to help, but it is hard for me to get there during business hours. They either want to look at the seal or need the Kiki numbers off the pump which I don't have - yet.

My "spare" engine's IP is:
Diesel Kiki
241 769 468
Pump No. 104660-2100
NP-VE6/10F2500RNP11

[Nissan label]
16700 W3301
104760-2170

I think that my '82 "driver" engine's numbers are:
325698 542
245 896523
Pump No. 104660-2110
NP-VE6/10F2500P12

It's very hard to read the pump nos. in the car, I had to use a mirror and read them upside down, which is why I'm unsure of them. I had to furnish my IP's numbers when I had the injectors rebuilt last year. Since then, I bought the "spare" engine, which is in storage, making reading the numbers very easy.

Al S.

Another option would be to have a sleeve made to reduce the bore to 28mm. 28 x 20 x 7 is available in Viton. I might be able to get a small run of sleeves made locally if it comes to that.

Al, I called a local diesel injection shop with the pump number off your spare pump. I was on hold for an eternity, but they eventually came back and said they had found the pump in the book and that they had an old stock seal. It is black, of course. I don't think I'll make it over there until next week. If the seal is the right size, they said they'd check with Zexel on the availability of Viton. They were unable (unwilling) to check the size of the seal. This seems to be common for injection shops. I'll keep hammering on this and something will break loose eventually.

That's great! I want at least 4 of these myself. How do you want to do the order? I assume others will want in on this, but may not want to meet the minimum on their own. I would have no problem with ordering and paying for the order, but I'd need to know who all is interested.

I need three or four (I have four IPs total). Need to find out the after-shipping cost. I just got hit with about $700 of health-related bills, and my debit card was compromised Sunday -- wiping out the checking account, though we've sorted out most of it, and only $100 is "missing" at this point, will get it fixed within two weeks. Short story is that I am fUBAR'd on new purchases at that moment, but . . . I can use three or four (if I don't have to come up with $40 right away).

Guys you can count me down for just one seal. Since I'm putting my engine back together with some new replacement parts down the road I'm going to want to change that seal for the fact that we're going to be getting ULSD fuel here in a few months. If my injection pump has the possible chance of leaking because of the new fuel I'd like to replace the seal to accomodate running ULSDF and possibly biodiesel in the future. Wanted to let you guys know I'm interested and thanks.

I'd be down for 2, even though I don't have a car yet.

If (when) I find a car, I will want to do this, like Salvy, thinking ahead for ULSD and potentially bio in the future.

Bear in mind the "1-2 weeks" part, so if you will want to put yours back together in May, you'll need to order fairly soon.

Last week, I'd have gladly just bought up ten, at that price, and stocked them. Can't today though.

I've got eleven so far. I had some intention of ordering these today (Friday), but I didn't get a chance. Pesky employer actually wanted me to do something! I will probably call Saturday, but I don't think they will be there, so it looks like Monday. Al, I put a smear of grease on the IP shaft to guard against corrosion, can you think of anything else I should do for the pump while I wait for a seal? I think my pump has largely drained out. I guess I'll have to open the lines and bleed this puppy to get it going when the time comes. I just hope sitting half full of fuel doesn't prove to be bad for the pump.
