injection timing query

#1

Post by minimog »

Hi all,
Just about to check/set the injection timing with the DTI clock in the back of the injection pump when I realised there is an anomoly in the FSM. My FSM is for an 810 Datsun fitted with the LD28 and it gives the measurement as 0.86mm +- 0.03mm. In Al's online FSM it gives the same measurement as 0.75mm +- 0.04mm. I'm going to opt for the dimension from Al's manual to start with. What would the difference in dimensions mean in real terms, more advanced pump timing with the higher figure?
Thanks, Dave.

From 1982 FSM, page MA-26:

Plunger lift mm (low altitudes)
M/T 0.85 +- 0.03
A/T 0.81 +- 0.03

(for high altitudes)
M/T 0.90 +- 0.03
A/T 0.85 +- 0.03

Still, from those 4 choices, only one must apply. What is a DTI clock?

Cheers for the link to that dial tool kit. Looks useful.

Keep us all updated on your timing solutions. Will be interested to know which setting you go with.

Hi all, well I got the pump timed in. I decided to go with .75mm setting that is given in Al's online FSM. Engine runs sweet as a nut with just a small puff of white smoke on cold start up, which could be explained by my glow plug timer only runs for 5 seconds? I was going to try some of the other settings but I couldn't be bothered to remove the injection pipes again
Thanks, Dave.

Video to follow when I get 5 minutes to upload it!
