Re: Sd22 Pistons & liners
All I have is a used 3 ring piston/rod for an SD22, I have no liners.
I see one rebuild kit on ebay, I believe it is a 3 ring, but it is made in China.
I have over heated a SD25 diesel engine in the past, not to where it would not run, but steam came out from under the hood on the off ramp on the freeway(dash lights decided to not work that night) and I had to keep filling the radiator, when I added water it did not spit back at me, but it never ran the same and smoked something awful, it really didn't look that bad but a guy I know looked at photos of the pistons and suggested the rings may have been damaged, I noticed when I tore it down that one of the pistons came up 1mm short of the deck, turned out it had a bent/compressed rod also, so I decided to keep it as a parts engine as I could not find a matching rod, otherwise I would have likely bought a complete rebuild kit.
Where are you located?

Re: Sd22 Pistons & liners
I think the one I have here is fine, but I am not really a person that knows if a piston/rings are good, I generally ask others that know more than I do.
I do know that the pistons in that SD25 I over heated do not look nearly as good as this piston, they had vertical scratches on them, this one hardly has any scratches. This piston came out of an engine(SD22) that the cam broke while it was running, well that is what I was told, I do not remember if I figured out the cam was broke or if they figured it out, I took the engine apart, kept what I thought was good and scrapped the block, I sold 2 of the pistons to a guy with an SD33, I cannot remember if I had all 4 or not, I just found this one in the parts tub right away when I seen your thread and looked to see what I had, there might be another one in there but I will have to start digging to find out.
I just noticed it has this little dent on the edge.

I found the other piston, it has more scratches between the top of the piston and the first ring on one side.
