Cruise Control Switch

When I got my '82 Wagon back (after selling it to a co-worker in 1999), none of the cruise control indicators would light, although the CC works.

Today, I investigated.

These are (apparently) T-1 form factor incandescent lamps with wire leads. That lamp is 3mm (~.118") diameter -- that's less than 1/8" !

In this close-up, you can make out the broken filament, on the lower leg:

After carrying it around in my pocket for a while, the filament got worse:

Newark sells a pack of (10) of these for $8, Their stock No. 50N8118, SPC TECHNOLOGY number 2182

I imagine that getting the lamp back into the soft silicone holder, and wrapping the leads correctly is going to be quite difficult for my fat fingers. These things are small:

I had the same problem with my gasser's switch. Then I tore the whole system out. Sometimes I think about re-installing it now that the car is a MT.

Anyway, thanks Al!

Removing the switch looked straightforward. I had a spare switch, so I knew exactly how it mounted, but shoving it to the right in the console did not let its finger release, and the console was grimy from spilled food from PO, so I just pulled the whole console.

I did so with trepidation, because the Maxima console cracks when you blink at it. I've broken several at JYs trying to get them out intact. Mine has two cracks now, one I think I created yesterday. I was being extremely careful.

All the hard plastic in both of my Maximas is extremely brittle. I know age is probably a factor, but it does get tiresome. Have to wonder what the plastic was like when it was newer.
