If you could run a normal internal combustion engine on water, would you

Running gas engines on Water

#1

Post by TooManyIdeas »

Ok not exactly water. By running electricity through water you separate the hydrogen (combustible) and oxygen (supports burning). There as supposedly how-to books on converting gas engines to run off actual water. Any thoughts?

Oh just thought you guys should take a look at this before you think I'm retarded.

duh duh what?!?!!?

I dont understand one bit of it, except for there is a escort wagon running on water somewhere in the nation

What octane is that gas? Cetane? I guess if she wasn't knocking and it didn't burn pistons, valves or head gaskets I would try it- very briefly though, if i dont understand how it works, im not using it

"HHO" eh? So it's a pressurized gas. While in storage, is HHO a pressurized liquid or is it stored as a pressurized gas? I infered that a distribution network like current commercial fuel gases is necessary. Not mentioned was how much electricity is needed to make a quantity of HHO. Lots? For an HHO supply of scale ... nuclear reactors will be needed.

Well ... let's see how fast Big Oil and Big Natural Gas squashes it when word gets out. Or ... imagine buying this fuel at current gasoline pricing.

Yes ... I'm that cynical.

I had costomers in at work with a home made device about a gallon capacity with the 2 electrode plates running of the battery voltage.the gasses are drawn int the air intake unregulated.these landcruiser owners have claimed hugh fuel economy improvements.i personall have used water injection on older low compression engines with big improvements.it definatly cleans the crap out of the combustion chamber increase life of the engine.

I purchased a edlerbrock electronic water injection controller.my mates copied the idea and made improvement at little cost.i dought my unit payed for itself.

I have a few cars on Compressed[LPG[not propane] and an installers lience. You can run diesel vehicles with added gas or other fuels like powdered or liquified coal.

german submarines used Hydrogen peroxide[?] to charge batteries with the diesel engines under water.not safely.

The future seems to be in storage conversion concepts that release electricity.ie liquid batteries or fuel cells.

Hydrogen powered engines are a done deal.rotary engines love it.BUT the deal is storage/transportation.fixed engines like generators and water pumps will be common when natural cas like methane becomes harder to use.
several experts i have listened to on GOVERNMENT radio have said the problem is boil off when the gass is stored in a car, limiting it to short trips..ive seen european cars with refridgeration on the tank to reduce pressures needed.

Phillip, supposedly the system generates the gas on demand. So no need to have a storage tank like a "normal" hydrogen setup. This means no nuclear disaster come the first fender bender. I checked out the company's website http://hytechapps.com/. However they aren't very forth coming with any additional information. But I do agree with you that the oil companies will try and crush it. They probably did years ago and some one reinvented it.

Anybody familiar with the acronym, TANSTAAFL? Robert A. Heinlein, Google it.

How about Perpetual Motion Machine?

My opinion, thus far, is that we will eventually all be driving electrically-powered vehicles. However, we still have to produce the electricity.

The Fox News blurb mentions the '94 Escort can run as a hybrid or on "water alone". No way is this hydrogen being produced on demand -- for very long. The amperes required to make sufficient hydrogen to power the 1.9l engine is horrendous on batteries. And don't for a minute think you are going to make an alternator (of whatever size) provide that power to run the electrolysis process, the net energy balance stinks.

This whole HHO thing smacks of window-dressing of plain old electrolysis, and I am especially troubled by this phrase from http://hytechapps.com/aquygen/science
Aquygen wrote:In the production of Aquygen™ Gas, there is no evaporation process at all, the electric energy used being insufficient for evaporation. This feature alone establishes that the H2O Model 1500 Aquygen™ Gas Generator produces a new form of water that is gaseous and combustible.
Evaporation? What the hell are they talking about? A new form of water?

The points following that one are pretty bad, too.

I made a DC electrolysis "generator" back in my garage when I was 15. Dangerous as hell, but I did successfully make a bunch of hydrogen and oxygen. It took a lot of electricity to split the water into H & O -- I mean on the order of 80 amps @ 220v, I blew breakers often. I don't see any reason why that would be different today, with a $7k machine.

Nice to know they accept wire transfer, as well as plastic.

Al S.

Proper english replaces the A in TaNSTAFFL so it would become TiNSTAFFL- the aint becoming a is :D

When you where 15? I dont think I even knew what hydrogen was when I was 15.

Am I the only one who took the poll? My resounding NO is burning a hole in me

recently on JJJ radio[ABC-National for under 25] during one of the world cant afford petrol debates a sudent from a university rang in to explain that his toyota ECHO-conveted to electricity-operated to and from work each day,at hyway speeds up to a distance of 180 km.the car was charged over night and at work.

his thesus was concerning green house gas produced versus greenhouse gas produced to operate the original petrol ECHO.during his chat he mentioned that battery life was almost 18000KM.
24 heavy duty 12 volt batteries AU$2400.
2400.00 divided by 18000 equals 13 cents per KM this would be aprox the same as the petrol used.plus charging and maintanece.

Greenhouse fixes and renewable power have spun off hugh industries.australia could today build solar power stations that produce hydrogen and all its electrical needs, cheeply BUT in the area i live there are 500 YRS supply of coal plus natural gas plus plus.

I'd hate people to know what I was doing at 15. Anyhoo. All your technical expertise aside, tell me it wouldn't be cool too filler up with a couple of gallons on arrowhead. Think about it, build an engine with enough horsepower and torque to rip a skyscraper off it's foundation with no regards to fuel economy, and no need to worry about emission regulations because the engine doesn't produce any. I think that would kick ass.

Ok ... the fuel is free, the conversion certainly is not, and you need a 250 gallon tank to drive 400 miles. Bet your bottom buck the EPA will justify its existance by regulating the emissions.
