OEM parts availability

OEM parts availability

Post by asavage »

If you've got the OEM part No., you can find some interesting things.

The oil pressure feed hose and return hose for the vacuum pump is still seems to remain available:

14665-V0700 Tube Assy.oil $27 + 9 S&H
http://www.nismoparts.com/cart/?pn=14665-v0700

14670-V0701 Hose Oil Return $25 + S&H
http://www.nismoparts.com/cart/?pn=14670-V0701

I don't know about yours, but every one I've seen is hard/crusty/leaking. I replaced mine on the '82 about six years ago, and the '83's is looking pretty bad and leaking.

The reason I'm skeptical about availability is that they list the engine torque damper as available too, and I couldn't get one from the dealer two years ago.

11290-W1701 Damper Assy $53.46
http://www.nismoparts.com/cart/?pn=11290-W1701

I think I'll go order one just to see what happens.

They've also listed the PS pressure hose
49720-W2500 Hose&tube Assy $260
http://www.nismoparts.com/cart/?pn=49720-W2500

GP bus that Steve has re-engineered:
11086-W2500 Plate.conn $18
http://www.nismoparts.com/cart/?pn=11086-W2500

[later]

I ordered the torque damper, but I ordered it from "Pinnacle Nissan" instead, to avoid the state sales tax, since nismoparts.com is in the same state I'm in. Pinnacle is in Arizona. Sure, it'll take longer to get here, but the shipping was cheaper, the initial price was a buck less, and I'm not in a hurry. The tax savings was $4, so overall I save about six bux. But I'm not holding my breath that this thing is actually going to arrive, since the dealer up here said it was NLA two years ago.

Al S.

Well, my credit card was charged, but Pinnale's web page still showed an order status of "processing", so I called them . . . the Torque Damper is apparently in their shipping dept and will be shipped today.

I think the key to this is having the part number. I bought the drain valve/water in fuel sensor for mine recently. My local dealer has no paper parts catalogs anymore, and I really think the keyboard jockey at the counter has a lot to do with what is "NLA." I really want a parts catalog now. Wish I had bought the fiche version a while back. That way I could have also bought a reader just in time to see ten paper catalogs on Ebay.

I watch for another one every week, but one's not come up.

:D

Meanwhile, I can get most part Nos. for you from mine -- except wagon digital clocks, which for some reason I have a part number for but the pictures shows an analog clock!

Isn't that the truth. NLA or "can't get it", has become a convenient response for "I would rather not be bothered."

You and me both, I missed on that catalog a while back and it sold for such a pittance. I was so bummed to findout that it closed while I was gone and I hadn't taken the time to bid / watch it.

Found a 1981 version of the Parts Catalog for $50:
http://www.books4cars.com/search~findma ... sc~810.htm

Third line from the end of the list.

But as a 1981 version, it's probably not a lot of value, and that's definitely a lot of money.

I think this must be what's leaking on mine. There's an accumulation of oil on the forward driver side of the engine that I haven't been able to locate, and it's not coming from the valve cover gasket either. I need to look into repairing this before it goes completely!

Is the hose part something that you can have attached to the old fittings or not?

Matt:

Funny that you should mention the damper, because I've been meaning to post about it for three days. Yes, I just (three days ago) got it:

Image

I ordered it on 19-Feb, they shipped it on 07-Mar (the packing slip says) and I received it some days after that. I don't know exactly when it arrived, as I don't check for mail very often, but I picked it up on 19-Mar. I called them sometime in there to inquire what the hell was going on, and at that time somebody did put me on hold for a while to cool off, and came back saying that it had just been put in Shipping for me -- something about a BO coming in that day. The website "order status" thing was useless, it only showed "processing" two weeks after my CC had been billed. However, the proof of the pudding is in the eating (to correctly quote the adage just once) and the damper -- which my local Nissan dealer claimed was NLA two years ago -- did eventually arrive, nicely packed in a box at least fifty times the volume of the original packaging.

Steve:
Philip (hibachi_honda here) has had a local place put new braided-exteriour hose on his SD22 fittings, which is pretty much nearly identical to the hose on the LD28, so it can be done, but it does require your old hose. I have a spare used hose that was weeping a little, that I've cleaned up and kept as a spare to send away and have "rebuilt" if the need should arise -- if anyone wants this spare hose as a loaner to have rebuilt, just ask and pay shipping, it's yours, but give me your old one when you swap it out so we keep a core hose around.

Since we can still buy it new for ($27 + shipping), that's probably the way I'd still go, unless you really like the SS braided cover, or feel that the "rebuilt" hose would hold up better. I think that the OEM part lasts sufficiently long to stick with it at that low price.

Caxambu thinks that he has an oil leak at the upper oil pressure fitting -- that pressure hose for the vac pump connects to the lower end of a steel line, and the upper fitting goes into the (block? head?). He is pretty sure he's got a leak at the upper fitting, which will require removal of the manifolds to access -- not really that much work, but not a lot of fun either. So you've got a couple of suspect areas.

My '83 Wagon has a leaking valve cover gasket, and it runs down right into that area -- at first, I thought it was the upper oil line fitting too, but closer inspection revealed that oil is leaking from above.

The drain hose is rock-hard after a while, and if you ever have to disturb the alternator you'll want to be very gentle with it. BTW, that drain hose is where the turbo oil drain will tee into ;)

Al S.
