front door speakers, Wal-mart JVC are a perfect fit
For anyone wanting to replace their speakers....here is what I found
I spent the weekend checking out every possible 6-1/2 speakers I could find. Well, I kept my search to affordable, on the shelf stuff, from major stores, and decent looking construction & good sound.
So no Kraco or radio shack stuff or paper cones.....just Walmart, Pepboys, Target, Best Buy, Circuit City.....
Just about every 6-1/2 speaker out there was too deep to mount. There is a plastic cup in the door frame that keeps the water off the speaker and keeps idiots from putting too deep speakers that will hit the door glass. A few would fit if you surface mounted but then you start blocking the door pockets.
Anyway, Wal-mart sells a 6-1/2 JVC speaker that is shallow mount and looks well constructed...rubber, not foam surrounds...plastic/synthetic cone, not cheap paper...dome tweeter....under $40.
The JVC fit perfectly into the shallow door mount. I had to drill screw holes as the three factory holes don't quite line up and the factory screws are too fat and too short.
The Maxi's grills where ok but dirty and one of them the fabric had come off the edge as the elastic was old. I removed the fabric and saved them, cleaned off all the foam ont he back side of the metal grills and painted them flat black with some grill paint, BBQ grill that is ha ha ha....that I had lying around.,
Looks real nice and not ghetto. I know you want pics so as soon as I can find my camera cable I'll try loading some.
But Wal-mart JVC 6.5 speakers are the trick on the Maxi doors.

the JVCs are blue. I'll have to check the box when I get home for the model number.
I'll have to work on the accessing the rear speakers. I'm guessing they are 4x6 or 4x10 or something like that.
BTW, my lady speaks again too....both front speakers were totally dead. not even a crackle.

JVC model CS-V624
and the tweeter fits behind the Maxima factory grill. Usually the tweeters make OEM grills bow or bend out because factory speakers are cheap and did not have a tweeter to worry about.
well that's what's on the WalMart web site. My box may have a slightly different number. But they are on the web site at the moment for $37 bucks and change.

In the sedan, I used 1/4 inch all purpose board (plywood) that fits under the stock plastic grilles and then bolted in some infinity kappas.
The wood gets rid of the extra bit of Hole nissan had on the back shelf cover and allows you to bolt the speaker to the back shelf before putting it in the car........if you measured properly.

oh, they are much more different than I thought. I still think there might be a round speaker somewhere behind there, because why would you design something new when you can just use the stuff you have? Even though thats more like a domestic car's thinking, but its a older Japanese car, it might be the same.
