Mileage in the 30s is what most of us are achieving with the SD22 in the 720 PU. Exceptional is 40+ using techniques not employed by most drivers.

Let us assume you are talking about an SD22 with Bosch inline injection pump.gimmy51 wrote:We peaked at 44+ the fuel was trimmed to the point of no smoke at full throttle. The side effect was the engine was only making about 25 to30 Hp. most of the time it's in the mid to upper 30s. Worst was 16 but it was working pretty hard.

Oh ... I'm getting answers alright.gimmy51 wrote:Philip,
Full throttle is max air, foot on the floor. On the SD the only thing the foot controlls is air flow into the engine, kinda like a gasser. Trimmed means, cutting back the fuel till the smoke ends then up a tad. The pump is Bosch inline running manuel fuel controll. Worst millage was 16 mpg, this was hauling hay with a tandem trailer 2 tons per trip.
Horsepower; in 81 the SD22 was rated 61hp@4000rpm. This engine has been slightly massaged. Without a dyno just seat of the pants and comparing to others I would estimate somewhere around 80 to 85 Hp. Fuel is power, smoke is waste, if full fuel = 80 then half or less would =?
if at full fuel 0 to 60 takes 20 seconds and trimmed takes a minute the the est. hp is close.
I hope this answered your questions.
