Right Angle Speedo Drive

#1

Post by pbknowles »

Question for the knowers of many things: Do any of the Nissan cars or trucks that use the unique "tang" drive speedometer cable also use a right angle gearbox at the transmission? These used to be fairly common on English stuff. For my S10 re-conversion I bought a new Nissan 720 cable and modified the speedometer head end to fit, then found it a little short. A right angle drive would make it just right, and salvage the $75 I spent at the dealer for the cable. Thought maybe the Z cars might use one for tunnel clearance?
Thanks,
PK

All of the z cars through at least '83 have the straight speedo carrier.

Later nissans like a 240sx have an electronic speedo sensor that fit in the same spot as the gear driven carrier. I don't know what it looks like.

nissan D21 has a 90 deg drive on the short transmisson with the left side cable drive.

its also used on the holden VL commodore with RB30ET MANUAL.
[gear box is similar to D21 with VG30].
