Invitation to Philip (to add a pyrometer)

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Invitation to Philip (to add a pyrometer)

Since no one with a naturally aspirated SD seems willing to put on a pyro or an exhaust pressure gauge, I would like to extend an invitation to Philip. If you are feeling up to bopping over here to Phoenix, I will put said items on your truck for free. :)

Give me a few weeks, I'm going to take the EGT gauge off my other truck since I'm going to sell it and I will be putting the EGT gauge onto the SD22 in preparation for when a turbo is added.

Hmmm. 8) The first November is the usual biker weekend to Beatty, NV ... which I've done WAY TOO many times over the pass 25 years. PHX would be a more fun, if you can believe that. I'll give you a call.

Since I like my A/C much more than I would want a hair dryer and, because my truck would give you a lot of base data, I'd still be interested in watching a pyro. I expect lower exhaust temperatures. I have my smokescrew throttle lean so that the only time I can see a little exhaust smoke is when somebody is following me at night, with the rpm way up and, floored.

On JBHunt, never ever did our trucks have pyros. Of course, when I started JB, their trucks was limted to 58 mph until about 1996 when raised to 62 mph (1600 rpm).

I had a pryo on mine for a while, not hooked up yet since I switched engine to "new" body, but I never saw over about 900f no matter how hard I pushed it. I don't know if my IP settings are anywhere close to factory as all the lock wire is long gone. I do plan to reinstall it so I'll let you know what I see when I do that, but I am also running a 2" exhaust with a flowmaster muffler, so not quite stock.

Hey Philip, interesting you mentioned JBHunt as I've worked on a few of their trucks already at the Freightliner dealership I work at. I've mostly done the company's B-Service on the trucks that I've been put to work on, instead of ones needing more mechanical work done. But regardless I have worked on them and thought it was cool you mentioned the company.

"B"s were 25k miles ... back when I was a driver. "A"s at about 12k. Back when there was all the miles you could lie about, us drivers would deliberately drive past our terminals for the long downtime for "B"s because some terminals would take 48hrs to complete.

But we stray.

PS: I took up Galen's offer. See Pyrometer thread.
