overhaul kit

I have a 82 720 with the sd22 that is in desperate need of a overhaul.

Where is the best place to get a kit (I figure I can overhaul myself).

This rig is using extreme amounts of oil and running on maybe 3 cyl. I think my inlaws used starting fluid when the glow plugs were shot, can new rods be obtained if these are bent?

Was told about a business in Washington or Oregon-- called prokits that sold these kits, but cant seem to find them.

Any help is appreciated and thanks in advance.

I really like this rig for running around and hauling tools to different jobs, I get 32 mpg. I cant afford to drive my fords.

I have seen some rebuild kits on E-Bay for the Fork lifts that use the SD-22 engine.

Also Jesco in Ceres, Calif is a Nissan Diesel Engine
authorized distributor of new and used parts. I have been there and bought parts, and one engine.

they will treat you well. parts might be pricy.

You should never use Ether to start one of these engines. it can really break things like pistons, rings etc... I have one piston with cracks starting at the wrist pins. another one with broken rings and ring lands.

Never use starting fluid with an engine with glow plugs. if you really must, disconnect the GP`s.

These engines do not take kindly to ether at all. The indirect injection coupled with the higher than usual compression ratio (indirect injected diesels typically have lower compression ratios) makes for lots of ping and rattle with little positive starting assistance. That rattle you hear is the sound of detonation/shockwaves hammering on the internal combustion chamber components and the results of that kind of pounding are not pretty. Over the years, most of the wrecked diesel engines I've rebuilt were damaged by misuse and overuse of ether.
