dyndns.org update client died

The software that checks to see if my dynamic IP has changed, and when the IP changes, lets dyndns.org know about it, so everybody can use the dyndns address "nissandiesel.dyndns.org" and have it point to my server -- well, it just up and stopped working. No indication of it, it was running, just not doing anything.

It's a java app. I've worked with the author on several issues, but this one still crops up. I think I'll have to make stoping/starting that app a chron job, weekly, with some other stuff that gets done periodically.

Sorry it's been offline for 1.5 days. It's a property of this setup, that I can't check if it's working to the outside world, from the inside. So it will work fine here at home, but not when I'm at work, but then I'm 15 miles away from whereever I can do anything about it!

Would this link have got me to the site indirectly during this problem?

Here I am trying to replace my IP shaft seal and the site was down

I have a confession - I satisfied my BB habit at another site, but it wasn't really cheating as it had nothing to do with Nissan

No, the IP update for all my sites (five, at the moment) was FUBAR, so none of them were accessible by their domain name(s). Even if you knew my current IP (assigned by my ISP dynamically, it changes every so often), the only site you would have gotten was that one you listed, my first and "default" site. You can't get the Apache server to serve any of the four other sites unless you present the site's URL (via HTTP v1.1), and you can't do that with only an IP, so there was no way to get there from here.

It's only a hobby, it's only a hobby, it's only . . . .

Just joking, just joking, just joking...

I was a little confused because there was an area wide broadband outage here, and when they got that fixed this site was gone. Just coincidence as it turns out. Nobody reasonable could expect your site to be 100% available, but I do miss it when it is gone.
