Seattle CL: 82 KC SD22 pickup for $3500 (my own vehicle)

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Here's your opportunity to own a low-mileage (86K original miles, no kidding), unmolested diesel pickup that spent most of its life in rust-free eastern WA. This truck is original right down to the factory radio and speaker wiring (how often do you see that?). The only non-stock modification that I can find is a booster relay for the starter solenoid, mounted to the inner fenderwell on the driver's side (it seems to work fine so I have left it alone). The most amazing thing about this truck is the complete lack of undercarriage rust which is so typical to these vehicles. There are a couple of spots of surface rust, one on the driver's door upper mirror mount and one on the LH side of the bed in front of the wheel opening. The only body damage is a slight horizontal crease in the rocker on the driver's side in the extended cab area (see picture below), as well as a minor tweak on the back side of the driver's side wheel opening. Paint looks to have been redone once but is in decent condition. Inside of bed has the typical surface rust from worn areas due to normal usage. I added an aluminum canopy with custom-made brackets such that no holes were drilled into the top of the bed; this keeps the rain out (pictures taken before I put the canopy on). It comes off easily, being held on with four bolts.

The engine is in excellent condition and the injection timing has just been checked. This is the only small diesel passenger vehicle engine which has NO TIMING BELT, as the injection pump and cam are gear-driven. This means you never have to worry about the timing belt breaking, stranding you and causing major engine damage as well. Below 40 degrees F, it does take a few glow plug cycles to coax it to life, but once running is smooth with no smoke. The 5-speed transmission shifts fine, but does catch a bit going into second when the vehicle is cold. I usually double-clutch for the first few miles of driving--once warmed up, it works perfectly. Fuel mileage ranges from 30 to 40, depending on the normal variables such as type of driving and how fast you drive.

The interior is very clean and is medium-to-light blue in color. Dash is good with no cracks. Floor is OEM ribbed blue floormat with no rips or tears. I will include a blue deep-pile carpet I got from a later-model Nissan pickup, which has noise-reducing pads underneath it which will further reduce road noise. Bucket seats: passenger seat is original with a cover; driver's side has matching cover and is a passenger-side seat from a later-model Nissan pickup which has an improved design for the lower cushion (original seats in these trucks were very poor). Rear jump seats look perfect and probably were never even used. All seatbelts (including for the two rear passengers) present and functional.

Here's a list of features and items which have been recently done:

- SD22 diesel engine, 2.2l, Diesel-Kiki inline injection pump
- FACTORY (not dealer-installed) A/C which still has a charge (not sure how much as I haven't tested it) so it doesn't have any major leaks
- Factory delay wipers
- Factory glass sunroof which does NOT leak (bonus, eh?), and it's removable as well, stowing away at the back of the cab behind two straps
- Supplemental upper door frame weatherstripping installed (came from later-model Nissan; reduces wind noise)
- One-piece window glass channels installed (came from later-model Nissan; reduces wind noise)
- All options/accessories work
- Tires in good condition, although they aren't as tall as the OEM size
- New master brake cylinder
- New master and slave clutch cylinders waiting to be installed (original still working fine)
- Synthetic fluids: Redline MTL in transmission and Mobil-1 in the differential
- New Costco battery last October
- Newer water pump; starter, alternator, and injection pump appear to be original
- Original jack, tool kit, owner's manual, and OEM service manuals are included
- Spare parts include injection pump, pump motor controller and control module, as well as other misc. parts I have scrounged since I bought it, such as center console with factory gauges waiting to be installed

This is as near to a perfectly original, unmolested 1982 vehicle as you're ever going to find (which is why I bought it in the first place). Most of these trucks have had the original glow plug controls and wiring hacked to pieces, as well as the injection pump controls butchered and replaced with some half-baked repair that makes it a frustration to drive. I've seen similar Datsun diesel trucks, with twice to three times the mileage and way worse body rust, fetch $2500-3K on Ebay. So I don't think I'm too far out of line on the price, but we can talk. Why am I selling it? I am a vehicle pack-rat and currently have eight, including two other diesel vehicles. I need to keep my large (gas-sucking) pickup for hauling and occasional towing, and just don't have a need for this vehicle. I have been driving it 45 miles a day on my commute to/from work for most of the past year and it has worked perfectly for me and never left me stranded.

I will be available for showing on weeknights 7-9pm and this coming weekend Saturday after 5pm and Sunday after 1pm. Email me if you're interested or want more pictures. I've tried to paint an accurate picture of this vehicle, warts and all, so you know exactly what you are getting. I'd really like to sell it locally, so act now if you have any interest. Otherwise it gets put on Ebay, where hopefully I'll have two people from the rust belt go gaga over all of the high-res pictures I'll have posted of the perfect floorboards and such, and get into a bidding war (heh heh, one can dream, right?).

Thanks for reading!

This is my own vehicle, so feel free to post any questions/comments/requests to this thread and I will answer them. It's darn hard for me to let loose of a vehicle, esp. one this nice, but I just don't need two trucks, and would rather use my Rabbit diesel as a daily driver, as it gets close to 50mpg.

Sold, for $3400 (I'm too darn nice, I knocked the $100 off myself, my wife is doing this  ) in less than 24 hours.

Wow, I got two serious lookers and three other interested people in just the first day. Apparently there is quite a market for this vehicle, much moreso than I anticipated. I'm happy--maybe I could have got more on Ebay, but selling direct to a local buyer is just so much easier.

I did emphasize to the buyer, both in my email responses and in person, that this is a 25-year-old vehicle (as opposed to a 5-year-old Honda) and will require more attention than a newer car, with respect to both normal maintenance (e.g. front wheel bearing repack) and potential repairs (fuel injection pump leak, starter/alternator failure, etc). Unless every nut and bolt has been apart on a quarter-century old vehicle and everything renewed (mechanicals, paint/coatings, all rubber parts, body seam sealant, etc), there is no way around the fact that there will be more things (many or most of them minor, a few major) that can and will wear out.

I will poke my head in here from time to time to see how everybody is doing, but sincerely appreciate all of the help, and I have to say that this is probably the best discussion forum that I am part of, with respect to the "signal to noise" ratio, so to speak. So to add a bit of noise, rock on, dudes and dudettes 8)
