Front end clunking

Hey gang:
I have two d21's one diesel one gas. They both clunk badly somewhere in the front when you back up with the wheels cranked to either side. I thought bushings but can't see any bad ones. Any ideas would be appreciated.

There are steering stops on both sides that have a nylon bumper(s) on them. If you turn the wheel slightly off "lock" does it go away ? If it does then perhaps its the nylon bumpers that are pooched. If not, then my guess is lower ball joints.
The lowers can be a PITA to get out too.

(Rule #32. the easy to replace parts never wear out )

That is my guess.

Problem with being retired is that you never get a day off.
