SD33 Timing Marks?

#1

Post by See4 » 8 years ago

Hello,

I am new to the forum and new to Nissan Diesels. I am retired and enjoy tinkering with the old style (No computers) engines.

Recently, I bought a SD33 N/A out of a 86 Nissan Patrol, I was thinking of putting it in an old Land Rover, but it is too large.

I was looking for the timing mark on the front crank pulley and there are 4 timing marks: one has no label, I assume this is TDC, the others are marked 16, 25 and 43.

On a clock face with TDC mark at 12 o'clock, the 25 mark is at 3 o'clock, the 43 mark is at 7 and the 16 mark is at 11 o'clock. Hope that makes sense.

I have not found any info in the Service Manual or searching various forums.

Does anyone know the use of these timing marks? TDC's use is covered in the manual.

Thank you
Best regards,

1979 Land Rover Series3, diesel
