TorqueFlite 727

Been too quiet here so here's a couple of photos of the only automatic (a Chrysler unit) and transfer gearbox known to live with the SD33 six. Starter is on the vehicle's left side.

Sure doesn't look like it. I mean, it has to be, but I can't see how. Must be a bellhousing adapter.

BB calls out a "SD33 to SAE #4 flywheel housing" adaptor.

Philip,

Only the Scout SD33's with manuals use the SAE #4 adapter.

The auto use a different adapter and the 727 is a big block Mopar/Dodge version.

I have one of the adapters here at the house if you want a pic of it.

From what I can tell the 727 Pics in this thread are not the SD33 version they look like the Jeep version to me. The transfer case is the Jeep Dana 300 not the Texas patterened case that the Scouts use (both in the Dana 20 and the Scout Dana 300 {only used in 1980}).

727 came in these versions:
Dodge/Mopar Small Block
Dodge/Mopar Big Block
AMC V8/258
IHC SV

I'm not sure, but the Dodge Cummins 727 maybe different too.

Any idea which of these versions was mated to the 4.0 Mitsu diesel used in the 78 full-sized Dodge truck?

From what I have found it did get the 727 torqueflite tranny, but this is all I know, I don't know which one. I did read somewhere else that it took the large torque converter so that's why I thought it might have been from the big block Mopar engine.

I wonder if the a500e which is descended from the 727 has a strong enough 4th gear and lockup?

I thought about buying a CJ10a for the sd33 and 727 in it, I asked a guy named Chris durham who you may have heard of being that your from SC. Anyways the conersion for the 6-bolt t-case to the 727 from the sd33 is pretty simple and that may be what happend there. Chris durham ran his CJ10 in competion but I dont have any pics of it.
