But the interesting question is why is diesel priced 25% higher than regular (northern California)? It comes out of the refinery earlier (read quicker and less expensive in time and process) than gasoline; can the ULSD process account for _all_ that price differential? Somehow I don't think so!

Diesel holds steady

Gas prices dropped recently by as much as $0.20 but diesel did not move at all. Is diesel fuel not made from the same crude?

It is down about 70 cents in the last six weeks here. Right around $4.00. Still 25 cents more than premium gas though.

East Coast fuel prices are generally lower than on the West Coast. The Diesel price dropped today here in Vancouver just $0.02 from $4.36 to $4.34

Currently 1 litre of diesel here sells for NZD1.35 (approx USD3.11). Don't know what the petrol prices are but are generally NZD0.30-0.35 cents higher than diesel. Fuel here in NZ has different taxes at the pump. Petrol is taxed at the pump (approx NZD0.50 whereas diesel is not. Instead, we oil burners have to pay what is referred to as RUC (Road User Charges). I pay NZD197/5000 kilometres. This equates loosely to USD120/3100miles. Cost of RUC is dependant on number of axles and weight.

My main fuel expense is my Gillnet boat. I burn about 2 GPH running 6- 6.5 knots. Idling is around 1/4- 1/2 GPH. 10 GPH will get me 9-11 kts, depending on load. So, I almost always travel slowly. I have a fairly efficient engine, but the main way I save money is driving slowly.

I recently bought fuel at Ballard oil in Seattle for $2.82/gal! My last fuel purchase in Ketchikan was $4.27/ gal, and before that it was $ 5.25 in Wrangell. The boat holds almost 400 gals, but I usually fuel up around the 250 gal. mark.

Road fuel seems to be down to about $3.50-3.60 around Seattle. But, the man at the fuel dock said that a pattern he has observed is fuel prices lowering as an election approaches, and increasing afterwards. I don't know if this is true, but he has been in the fuel business for a while.

Over all, fuel in the US is inexpensive when one considers what others pay, windsock is just one example.

That's around USD$12/gallon, for those following along at home. PLUS . . .
we oil burners have to pay . . . Road User Charges . . . I pay USD120/3100miles.

Sorry Al, I neglected a unit on my numbers. That should have been USD3.11/USgal. Hell, even then, did I do my sums right.

NZD1.35/litre

NZD1.00=USD0.60 therefore NZD1.35=0.83

1 litre = 0.26Gal therefore 3.78 litres per US Gal

Yep, about USD3.14/USGal

Then theres the road taxes... as above...USD120/3100miles

Sorry for any confusion. Someone may want to check my math.

Bought fuel yesterday after some searching. There is currently a diesel shortage in Alberta and BC and a lot of the bulk, card lock, operations are limiting 500 Liters per trucker and the cards that are issued to diesel fleets are limited to 250 liters per account per day. I had to go to three different consumer type stations yesterday to find some fuel, and then they were even limiting 100 Liters per fill. Not a problem with the Nissan and there was a guy at the pumps that wanted the difference from what I pumped (50L) to be put in his F550. The pump jockey would not do it and the guy was pissed off. There is, allegedly, a problem with a refinery in western Canada thats what "they" say is the problem. I personally think it is a way to jack up the price. (I always believe in the conspiracy theory  ). In the end I paid $48.98 for 39.216L ($1.249/L)
Let me see if my math is working.
Right now $1.249 Ca = approx $1.05 USD
1 US Gal = 3.785L
3.785X$1.05 = $3.97 gal. US.
Still too friggen much :x :x :x

Hi Guys, I've just discovered your forum and thought I'd chuck my tuppence worth in re fuel prices here in the UK.
Currently we're paying around the £4.85 mark (British Pounds) for Diesel, although when some of the delivery drivers had their strike on I was paying anything up to £6.21 per gallon (Diesel)....petrol's a bit cheaper!

Best Wishes

I've seen three stations advertising USD$2.99 per gallon three days ago. About 30 mi. from here.

Around here, just dropped to $3.11/Gal.

The disconnect b/w gas and diesel is insane in HI. $2.69 for gas, $4.29 for USDL diesel.
