VE pump

#1

Post by davehoos »

I am working on an international truck with a perkins engine.fitting A/C.

its fitted with a bosch VE pump that is installed vertically.ip pipes to top.
the top cover has a boost compensator, clockwise throttle and a cable stop lever[no electrics].the top will fit directly on to a LD28 type pump.

my rd28 has the same stop lever-in the intructions it listed as a fuel quality adjustment.

on the under side of the boost diaphram is a pipe 3/8 dia about 2 inch long pointing down as a vent drain.this is conected to the pump with a banjo bolt in what is normally the adjuster hole that has a bung.

its a 1982 australian made INTERNATIONAL ACCO 1850C.
the engines a 6 cyl and called a phase 4.it a new engine in the truck but a similar type.very common with government departments and garbage contractors.this is a water cart for road contruction contractor.

its a very english design.i planned to get a few pictures but its raining.

the radiator fan is mounted to the crank pulley extension,it uses 2 rubber and steel washers and a single nut on the front like a shocky.the fan sits in the center untill the rubber is worn out.

some of these trucks use a UD 6 cyl,a neighbour fitted a small capacity japanese import version with turbo to an EX army ACCO 6X6.he made a bell housing from steel plate ,the turbo was in the drivers seat so it got relocated to the other side.with 2 steel pipes over the top.

Sounds real different from the marine engines I've seen.

What do you mean by "English design"?

get some picts tomorrow,
got a TD42T patrol with a "diesel expert" convertion.it in for some new liquid pipes to get better clearance with the dump pipe.

Im from the colonies so my terms my be unusual.
perkin diesels used to be english.
they design engines for other companies.i would be supprised if LD28 wasnt a perkins.
if you look at a mazda/kia-perkins lience engine it neat with good metric bolts and simple construction.but the shape of the head is simple perkins diesel engine.

its like german design,if it is properly machined and assembled it works well in the job it was intended.
english use silly threads and they are made to be serviced by low teck workers.

there is no term for japanese design as they copy and perfect.
