Nissan, 1.6l and diesel doesn't ring any bells ATM. But Nissan has built a lot of different diesel engines over the years.

Can you post a pic of it? Or, upload it here?

Looks like a member of the CD family.

In the US, I've only seen them in the front-wheel-drive Sentras (1983-86), a 1.7l CD17.

There is also a CD20 that I know about.

How do you know it's a 1.6l?

What vehicle is it installed in?

I don't know where the series is cast into the block.

Yours is not a US-spec CD, as it does not have any EGR system provision on the intake, so it came from overseas as a guess.

There are two belts that are buried in there: one that drives the camshaft/water pump, and on the back of the camshaft is a separate belt that drives the IP. If the first belt, the cam/water pump belt breaks, the engine is immediately destroyed.

I bought a case of cam belts from eBay a couple of years ago. If it's a CD17 (and maybe if it's a CD20), I'll give you a free belt if you can use it.

Ohh I see so you think its a CD17 then interesting.
It must be stamped on the block somewhere in going to go look hahaha
I dont live in the US so ill just have to watch that belt by myself

Please edit your profile (click on "Profile" at the top of any page) and add your location. You might put your vehicle info in your Signature, too. Thanks :)

Check on the block where the head mates to it. That is usualy where nissan puts the engine codes and serial numbers, probably on a flat spot in the rear. It may not look like it is there, but do some cleaning and you will probably find the engine code.

number should be on left rear of block.vertical.
writen in fancy lettering.

commercial vehicle engine small FWD van-RWD starter motors are mounted rearward on the gearbox.

Do you know if the CD17 and CD20 have the same head so i can bolt up a CD20 turbo to this CD17(i think its a CD17 will check block again tomorow)

the pattern for the intake/exhauste would be similar ---
but have a look for some CD20 C23 van engines.the manifold hangs out a distance.and a N15 FWD engine likely to have the exhaust running under the sump.

The CD20 turbo im getting is off a serena van
im hopeing the manifold will bolt up and i plan on useing the CD20 oil pump aswell to move the oil through the turbo better than the CD17 one.
