Injection pump tensioner repair/replacement availability

#1

Post by RiverRat »

I have an LD28 in my boat, a 1984 Albin27. The IP belt failed and stripped out the ribs. When replacing it the tensioner pulley seemed to have some play in it but spun freely with no noticeable noise or grinding. The motor has 1300 hours on it which I guess is equivalent to 50 or 60K miles.
It is suggested that the tensioner be replaced cannot find one online.
Does anyone have suggestions as to repairs or replacement of this part?
Thanks, Dan Gibbons

Have a read through here:
http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/viewtopi ... +tensioner

And perhaps here:
http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/viewtopi ... nce_IPBelt

You may be able to come up with some clues as what to get.

I did not read through all of it but I think there are some ideas in there

Good luck

Maybe reach out in a few PM's to some of those members to see if they still have some pieces lying around.
I realize they are old posts but might be worth a shot

IP belt tensioner

Thanks Paul,

The links you provided indicate that there may not be solution for a novice like myself. It's a shame as the engine is in great condition. I have sent an email to Al Savage to see if he has any current information. I have installed a new belt and the engine runs great. Just have to hope the pulley lasts I guess. Also, I have fabricated an emergency outboard motor mount for the boats swim platform in case of another failure.

Cheers, Dan

I only log in here every couple three months, so your email was a good idea.

I am still making the replacement LD28 IP belt tensioners shown in this thread, and at the same 2007 price.

I have a new one..in the package. I will post the part number. If you have a decent dealer...they can order from Japan. When I orderd mine...I purchased three. Took four weeks to get.

I will look for receipt...believe was about $70 each. Will take photo in package..however have never been able to figure out how to post.

Do not know...purchased mine a little over two years ago...along with a fourth I put into a local fellows wagon. His wagon stopped running...he got my number from another owner referring him to me....I put on the new tensioner.

Try the part number...my wife's cousin lives in NZ...there are still numerous LD28s in vehicles, boats, and industrial equipment accross the Pacific. The engine was used through the late 80's.

I was told by the local dealer in Portland it was not available back then.

On an aside... purchased my pistons, rings, gaskets from NZ and Australia.

The tensioners are available...as I mentioned previous....lot of LD28's throughout the world. I did dis-assemble one and put in a bearing. IF you have a patient beariing supplier...the cost of the bearing is around $9.00. However....I messed up three old tensioners before succeeding. Was looking for a back-up plan.

Not to worried...the original tensioners went over 220k miles....glad you located one :D
