LD28 engine idling high & not responding to throttle

Hi guys

Im Brock from New Zealand, im new to the forum and new to diesels - but from what ive seen so far this place is a wealth of knowledge.

Ive got hopefully a quick question on an LD im trying to get going from a crashed car that has been sitting for around 10 Years.

Its a Non EGR LD28 with the cooler - it starts and runs rough at a high idle and has a knock sound every 10 seconds or so, roughly 1000-1200rpm (sounds a little like running on 5), then any movement on the throttle (part or full) there is no change at all on rpm.

I thought it might have been bad fuel etc so ran a line to a fuel container with a prime pump filter. now when you start it it does the same idle thing but the faster you prime the more it starts to rev up. (still rough though and alot of white smoke but dont know if thats just because its been sitting).

I thought maybe injectors or even the pump may be an issue - it was running ok after the crash aswell. Timing?? Im at a loss as to what to do now, i have 1 other engine that ran good just has the front sump and mine needs a rear sump (didnt want to make a pickup yet).

Any help much appreciated
Cheers
Brock

Something is stuck inside your IP after 10 years sitting there. Did you use clean fuel and filter for start-up?
I would suggest to run the engine for 2-3 hours until it reaches normal operating temperature and beyond. Add some ATF oil into the fuel. It is a good cleaner and lubricant at the same time. If that doesn't help the IP needs to be serviced.

The IP needs to be rebuilt.
