SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

I'm still running the power steering fluid in my governor. Been in since 2004 and no problems to date...

White smoke means you have water in the fuel. I have this same engine in a sailboat and it happens all the time.(third world fuel) I have a fuel water separator, but I'm not familiar with how the fuel system is set up on the trucks. Good luck!
