SD22 fuel system question...

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

SD22 fuel system question...

#1

Post by olderthanme »

So I am swapping a datsun 720 over to an SD22 from a Z24...
I have a front clip from a SD22 720 with fuel filter and all, but do I need a fuel pump at the tank? will the stock gas fuel pump work?

What do I need back there? Will the I.P. be able to pull fuel from the tank?

Thanks

If I understand you correctly, you are putting an SD-22 into a vehicle that had a gas engine, yes?

If so, the fuel tank needs to be cleaned out and if there is a fuel pump in the tank, it has to be removed and replaced with a fuel pickup tube. You have to ensure that there is a return line that goes directly to the fuel tank to accommodate fuel return from the fuel filter head. Gasoline vapour emission devices technically serve no purpose in a diesel fuel system. Removing them depends on whether or not your district prohibits removal under any circumstances or not.

The SD-22 has a lift/feed pump built into it, so no other pump is required.

Hope this helps...
