Al,

If you're up for it, I'll be getting you to originate some keys for this car. It came with one, non-original key. It works OK, but not like the ones you made for the White car.

The driver's side rear door doesn't open on this car. I have had this on one or more doors on three out of three Gen 1 Maximas I have owned. I don't remember all the details, but I remember pulling the door panel, lubing some of the lock mechanism, and in at least one case, slightly bending some linkage. Seems like the linkage for the inside handle wasn't coming all the way home or something like that. Getting the panel off with the door closed is the hard part if I remember right.

Just need to know the keycode. Since it's an '82, there should be a keycode sticker in the glovebox, similar to this:

Image

Get me the keycode, I'll tell you the cuts and you can verify that the cuts (or slope) on the key you have at least follows the up and down of the numbers. This avoids problems if the car has been re-keyed but the old keycode not updated.
Getting the panel off with the door closed is the hard part if I remember right.
You remember right, it's no fun but I believe it's do-able. You have to slide the front seats completely forward, tilt them forward, and remove the rear seat bottom from the car. Then it's just screws and panel pushpins.

Glad your trip was productive, even if it was long. I've made similar trips like this, one to Akron Ohio from Des Moines a less than a year ago, I know how tiring it gets!

Also good to find that the TB was at least one culprit to the non-running vehicle. Such a simple thing but one overlooked by so many, and as Al said probably a contributor to many who went to the salvage yard.

BTW, I have a new Atsugi primer/filter head that I'll be listing in my FS post if you're interested.

Steve,

I'm definately interested in the filter head.

Al, my sig appears to have become clickable, I assume I have you to thank. Guess I'll need to start a thread for the other two now that I have picture linking under control.

Noticed today that all 4 power locks work. The pace of discovery has slowed, what with 12 to 14 hour workdays and all.

Wondering now what the jumper from the battery to the alternator is for. Maybe a workaround for the failed splice that several have experienced?

Need to check out the radio when I get a chance. Gotta have tunes.

It only seemed appropriate. Edit your Sig to see how it's done. Hint: the [gotopost=] tag is your friend, to keep it all under 250 characters (or whatever the limit is these days, until I push it up again).

Do you really want your timezone set to GMT-8? Seems wrong for where you are.

The alternator's wiring doesn't have the same problem as the Ign. switch feed, but it does go through those fusible links and funky large spade connectors whose connections fail.

Never really thought about it. I'm on Eastern time when I'm home. What is that GMT-5?

I think so. It'll make the displayed times of everyone else's post look more real, if you set your timezone in your profile.

It's been posted up in my FS thread, I finally found it after digging through all my spares . You have first right of refusal on it since I offered it up here first.

That includes the socket, the base/reflector, that gasket, and a bulb!
I bought one of each marker assy and two timing belt tensioners. Just arrived today. Hope to get that car running soon. Kinda surprised they still sell the marker lights. They don't look to be old stock either - at least not 80's old.

Yep, sure did. Bit odd to deal with, but I got the stuff. Makes me wonder about the cost and availability of tail lights...

Pretty sure I found 'em

I am running FAST now. If this is what the dealers have to use, no wonder everything is NLA when you ask.

Where is Nismo Parts located as far as their address in the U.S.? Do they have just one location and how would shipping be from them? I'm thinking if they're located on the west coast it would be expensive to ship some stuff to where I'm at on the east coast. Are they generally cheaper in price for these older diesel parts compared to let's say if you go to your local dealer? Reason I ask is if you can save 10-15% from their prices compared to the local dealer I'd like to consider to buy from them more. Thanks for a reply.

They are located in WA.

Shipping cost will not really increase *much* because of your location. The time from ship to receive will increase though.

That URL won't work if there is already a cookie set (ie if you've visited before and run at least one part number).

Yeah, I noticed my link crapped. How have you been doing it?

Fast is kinda sad, but as you said before, it is better than nothing. I really like the part where the shortcut to the installer pointed to the wrong place.
