Well... not 'exactly' stock. External stuff.

I find those signs read about 2-3 mph under, but 2-3 mph under might cause a odo deflection of a little more than 5%- but then again I cant do math and this is just my general thought

How come everybody is getting such good mileage?
I feel left out with my disfunctioning 2.4 liter- I get around 18 mph, and 15 highway

I had to ruin the streak of good fuel economy

And this tankful is 28, so I think the 32 was bogus math or a short fillup or something. No more cracks about a "personal tailwind", OK ;)

My most recent tank covered 329 miles from Seattle to Vantage and back. Over Snoqualamie Pass (3000') Indian John Hill (2100') and two others (2400' and 2500'). I burned 7.95 gallons of B60 for 41.38 MPG. For BD this is great mileage. I drafted a few trucks at 65-70 mph, but mostly kept it at 55 in clear wind. I jacked up the tire pressures and coasted whenever practical. Cooling fan removed. Ambient temps 50-80* F. My previous best tank on BD was around 38 MPG.

The following is mostly for myself; so that I can compare apples to apples. Using my BD discount rate of 4-6% (economy penalty for using BD in any concentration above B20) this tank should have been good for at least 43 MPG on D2. Which is stellar. I need to adjust the smoke screw, as it starts to smoke a little around 3/4 throttle in 5th at 50 mph. The screw still has what looks like the factory wire tie job.

Have fun,
Byron

Odd that you have visible smoke. After a short warm-up, neither of my SDs smoked at all, at any RPM or load condition.

I was getting about 34 MPG on my 30 mi. commute, never exceeding 50 MPH, in stock configuration with gasser gearing, which is slightly less tall OD. Dumping the fan for an electric would be pretty high on my modifications list for a personal SD.

Unrelated: our local BD retailer was the third owner of a longstanding BD business, and managed to put it out of business in under six months, so there has been no retail BD available within 50 miles for the past three months, roughly coinciding with when I started driving the '82 Wagon again. It has now been sold to a fourth owner. Seven of us met with her last week for 1.5 hrs and it seems we'll have B100 (B99, anyway) available again in a few more days.

Just in time for me to stop driving the '82 Wagon daily. Sheesh.

While our previous fuel supplier (based in Seattle area somewhere, I do not know their name) was supplying fuel from virgin oil, the new owner is leaning toward trying fuel from a fellow based in Kingston who is buying waste oil from Tacoma and reacting it in Kingston area. This should be interesting.

Meanwhile, I've put about 2000 miles on D2 in the '82 Wagon and it just kills me a little everytime I pull up to the pump. Timing is all.

Off to solder a pair of diodes into the RKE/RS kit for the '93 Aero now . . .

Al S.

Sunday round trip for my birthday. :^) (I'll explain why later).

310 (odomile) / 7.7 USA gallons using D2 and no neutral/coasting.

(Note: This odometer checked shorted 4.1 miles of per true 100 mile. This is typical.)

The hardest grade was going to Palm Spring's Tram at 4.5 miles from Hwy 111 (starts about 450' height) and reaches the Tram (2,650' height). The last half mile requires 2nd gear at 3/4 throttle! Then you ride the Tram Way cable from 2,650' to 8,500' in about 20 minutes.

Also graded up I-15 over Cajon Junction to Victorville and the I-10 Palm Spring to Banning grade with 35mph wind head. .

Bryon .... please give me of this brain fart.

Correction meant is:

(Note: This truck odometer clocked 100 tire miles found out to be "true" 3.1 miles shorter. This is typical.)

So ... "true" was 297 miles / 7.7 gallons = 38.5. ;^)

Does this mean that the odometer showed 95.9 mi. when you had actually travelled 100?

Or, the odometer shows 100 miles, but you'd only traveled 95.9 ?

How about putting an SD22 / 5sp in a Maxima?

A "true 100" has never refered to an "odometer."

Philip,

No sweat. I'd even happily forgive you of a real fart. After all you live in CA and I'm in WA.

Take care.

Made another all-day yesterday. 280 miles out to La Quinta (next to Indio), CA and back home. If you've been on I-10 between Palm Spring and Banning ... you know the little SD will be flat out for most of the 15 miles (nearly always heavy winds and up hill climb). 5 gears and some times 4th. Had about 250 lbs on truck.

Returned 37.8 mpg for the total. :)
