Needed: Vacuum Pump for LD28 (Diesel Maxima)

Buy it, sell it, negotiate, haggle, drag it out from under the workbench or behind the garage and make it someone else's problem!

Had one of the phenolic slats broke and took out two more of them. Just want to replace the pump in one piece if possible.
Thanks

I might have one. If not, I'm pretty sure I have the vanes.

I might be able to check tomorrow; that stuff is a long way away in storage two peninsulas west of me. I might be going that way tomorrow. Email me if you don't hear from me by Friday.

Al S.

Al has this http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/viewtopic.php?t=2915

Perhaps if you cant find one for your Alt. this may work. A bit more fiddling around getting an accumulator and switch etc. but better than going no where.
Can probably get an accumulator from an auto wrecker out of something

Just a suggestion

The vacuum pump is used on a lot of different diesel vehicles; I would not think that it would be impossible to find one.

I'll ask Mark Hartz: he has a "rebuilt" alternator from someone that went bad after a month, and the replacement they sent also went bad. He doesn't want to sell the pump from it, but I bet the company that's selling those bad rebuilds have more ;) Get the whole alternator for just the vacuum pump, is what I'm thinking.

Paul, yes I setup a backup braking vacuum system for my 70's motorhome with a pump and accumulator. Something different about our setups on these maxima's the amount of oil that runs thru it, so not sure if that would be an issue for a electric pump setup?

Al, yes...I would buy the whole alternator package with bad alternator to get the pump. Appreciate you checking on that.

I have also located a source for sheet phenolic. If i can get some close enough I could possibly create replacements. I have one left that wasnt broken to size from. Just not sure how close the tolerances need to be, whether this is a machine shop job or something I could do with woodshop tools, sanders, etc.

Of course the best and easiest way is to get a replacement, fingers crossed.

AFAIK

The oil that goes to the pump is to lube the vacuum pump only so you could block it off or use it to operate an mechanical oil pressure gauge, or an electric one too.

Mark didn't have much to say. eBay, "USA Auto Parts", which didn't get me far.

There is a Maxima alternator on eBay right now, "brand new" with vacuum pump. $160, free shipping. Ten available.

Thank you asavage..I didnt get a auto email saying that there were more responses to my quest for a alternator so just found your words of wisdom. My attempt to have phenolic's machined failed as I don't get vacuum from them after installation. But I just ordered one of the alternators from this company, and they appear to have great service, a one year warranty and most important, they have the vacuum part.

that lead very appreciated
