That information is removed from the later manuals, and is pretty misleading, since there are not reference marks to use a 7° BTDC number: what would you do with it?
Where ARE those timing marks for setting the injection pump on LD28's?

LD28 in Maximas (don't know about Marine/Industrial) have only TDC on the flywheel, nothing on the harmonic balancer.

You are kidding. The one mark is the ONLY mark and that is TDC .... not the 7° BTDC mark? How peculiar.

You measure the VE's plunger lift at TDC, that's how you time it. No other marks are needed. Unlike the sloppy SD method of "well, when it starts/stops dripping fuel . . . ".

Ok ... NOW I remember you covering that procedure. A dial indicator or somesuch tool is required.

Regarding your diesel timing doohicky that allows the use of a strobe timing light. Does your timing light have a timing delay dial/provision that would permit you to verify the static/mechanical timing method?

My antique timing light doesn't, but the Kent-Moore J-33300 does, built-in. And it displays the degrees offset digitally even (big deal in 1984 when this thing was made).

I haven't ever timed an LD28 . . . and Joe has been too busy to shoot his engine after mechanically timing it. The Teeming Millions will just have to wait.
