SD 23 Turbocharged (FIN-diesel)

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Welcome. Always like pictures - easier to take in after a hard day. What happened with the crack? Did you just get another head?

Cheers, Rufus

Just a couple of thoughts: 1- you were running a LOT of boost for a idi diesel motor. 2- you don't say if you used a water injector to control the turbo temperature, too hot and blown head, block, etc. 3-how did you get the vacuum control fuel pump to enrich the motor at boost, or did you? You should cure these problems before you condem the sd22 as too week.

I had nissan Cabstar`s Radiator, 2x large than the normal one..

i had fastened water pump and extra oil cooler, The turbo was however watercooled (GT28)

I have an SD33 (patrol) and SD23 "mixed" dieselpump with 12 millimetres head..

ps. The SD23 motor have it`s own oil cooler, larger oil filter.. And it has 5 Main bearings instead of 3 in SD22

My use of the english language was poor. I ment that the exhaust gas tempersture was out of control and contributed to your meltdowns, not the water temperature if the block. You need a water injection into the cylinders to cool the egt. sorry for my poor explanation.
