LD20 T-II, Correct starter?

#1

Post by BERKANOS DAD »

I have an LD20 T-II.
I am trying to get it started.
It came with a #16805 starter, which is listed for the 720 and some cars.
This barely would turn the motor over.
My FSM for my 84 list specs for the old SD, and it takes a 100 amp reduction starter.
SO, I ordered a starter for the SD #16771.
It's too big, ( extends into where the motor mount is.)
Someone must make the right one, where do I get it?
Part number Would be great.
BTW: trans is a 4w71c.
Thanks.

GOALS:
Diesel power:fuel economy, with power.
I.F.S./I.R.S.: ground clearance, and handling.
Body work/paint: grandma tan is ugly.

I kind of ran into the same problems a while back with my SD 25.
see here :
http://nissandiesel.dyndns.org/viewtopi ... ht=starter

There are a couple of photos of the starter that I took out and the part number for it etc. It is the OE starter as well.

When I was having issues with it from the rebuilder I looked at a DD starter and it appeared to be about 1/8" too long to fit becasue of the motor mount.

I think that the LD mounts on the "right side" of the engine and am not sure if the indexing of the starter will matter or not as the SD mounts on the left side.
shrug ! :?

I also have a S13-104 ( 23300-83W00) starter that I got from Al a while back. He had it at his shop and I cant recall if he said it was from an LD or what it was from. It appears to be the same as the one that I have in my SD 25. I got it from him to have as a core, or to perhaps even get rebuilt and keep as a spare.

Again :!:
shrug :?

Hope this helps

Problem with being retired is that you never get a day off.

several starters listed.cold areas etc.
but basically there is 2 starter motor and 2 brands.
the types i have are mitubishi.
the closest other type of starter is the TD42.
the LD28 wont fit but a LD20 fits a LD28
y LD20T came with a hugh SD starter

the 2 types are
1 910 RHD URVAN E24 and FWD LD20II

2 the more common commercial an C22

the 910 type has the solinoid close to the block.
the other it hangs out wide.FWD starter often have 1 hole in different location.

the pinion gear is bigger dia.

Not outta the woods yet.
" y LD20T came with a hugh SD starter "
Is that a brand? hugh? If so it is not one I know of.
910 RHD URVAN E24 and FWD LD20II
Sorry, but the auto parts places around here all drew a blank on that one.
C22 , no luck there either.
The first question they ask is " what kinda rig is it? "
Since it was never imported, there is no listing.
I will try a Nissan forklift place next, maybe they have a C22.
I am beginning to think this is why the previous owner gave up.

this is a common vanette starter.
the soliniod hangs away from the block.wide.so you need clearance area.

sd starter fitted the ring gear but not the block.

cabstar SD starter.

mounting pitch hole 110MM[SD is 120mm]
solinoid mounted high
starter is very long so it may not clear the mount.

DAVEHOOS !
How do you say thank you in australian?
Since I can't buy you a pint, this will have to do.
Next day off I'll hit up the parts places and see if I can get one locally, or if not then order one.
again, THANK YOU !
