LD28 gearbox leak

#1

Post by asdex »

Hi not really an LD28 question but I guess there are plenty of LD28's with 4N71B auto gearboxes. I have a leak from the speedo cable fitting. If I pull it out will the oil all come out?
Will there be an o ring I can replace?
Thanks,

Hi there!

I found this on a website:

Image

It says that:

6: Seal ring, speedometer pinion
8: Seal-oil, speedometer pinion
and
9: Seal ring

I too had a small leak there but nothing serious. Noticed this when I had to change the speedo cable but never bothered fixing it.

Details on
this page.

Thanks for that diagram. I'll take the fitting out and have a selection of o ring handy. Any idea if I can leave it out for a while or will the oil level be above the hole and all the oil start running out?
Cheers

Can you jack the car up high on that side so the port is more likely to be above the fluid level?

jack up the rear.no oil runs out it you unscrew the cable.
if oil is leaking from the speedo cable its a gear seal deep inside the adaptor.

the oring is on the out side of the adaptor.and the adaptor is held in by a bolt and tab.

the seal is not sold seporatly for late model nissan cars.you have to buy the adaptor.
pre 80's was fitted with the same seals and is serviced seporatly and normally carried by parts dealer.

2 part numbers are listed
32709-14600 up to 1984.
32709-58S00 after 84.

Hi, I have taken out the adaptor and see the seal inside. It's a NOK AGO241F 13. 29. Rubber seal with I expect a metal shell. Is this the seal you can't get by its self?
Thanks

Got this all sorted now thanks.
Ordered a seal but the sent the 58S00 which was the wrong one.
Got the 14600 which fitted easily in plus a new o ring and it's all good now.
Cheers
