No start--- please help

Folks,

my beasty (SD22/720 pickup) hasn't been fired up for a while. I am kind of stuck with trouble shooting. First, no cranking, no IP moving into "ON" position when I turn the iginition key. I swapped the ignition key with another one, same deal, so it's not the key. when I run a cable straight from the ignition key to the starter, then the starter will whirl up, so obviously the circuits in the ignition key do close. Relays are OK (pulled them and tested them).

what's the next step?

Are you simply wanting to get it to crank and run? Are you willing to by-pass the trucks OEM systems?

Disconnect the rod (at the lower end) from the IP control. The IP will go to run position (default location).
Use a short jumper wire and touch one end to the +battery cable and the other end to the small male terminal of the starter.
IF it has fuel, a strong battery, and a good starter, it should crank and if warm enough, the engine will fire and run.

I don't see the importance of swapping the ignition key. Did you swap the electrical control from the bottom of the ignition switch? The harness plugs into it.

No, I'd like to have it run as it should, without bypassing OEM controls.

Swapped the whole ignition switch + plus tested the original once it was out. It checked out OK.
