My first paint job

Well, it took all of a week to get tired of looking at the rust and pink paint, so picked up some duplicolor premixed paint at Orieleys and went to town. It still needs to be cut and buffed and I may add a coat or two of clear after because I think I held the gun too far away and did not get great coverage. But it looks better than it did already and the rust will not get any worse. I sprayed the rust with neutralizer before I primed it for the record.

It still needs to be cut and buffed but its good enough for the girls I go out with!

I looks much better.
You mentioned in another post that your tires rub. What size are they so i will know what size is too big?
I have 205/60/15 on mine. No rubbing.

The rubbers were 205-75-15 on 15x8 ultra wheels. Those things didn't just rub a little either.

All put back together. Went over some of the red over spray with semi flat black and scored a bumper, mirrors and lenses from a fellow nissan/datsun diesel guy. Thanks Dave!

Not to horn-in, but I put,,,
225/60R16 on the front - No Rub EVER (1" taller than stock)
245/70R16 out back - No Rub EVER (29.5" = 3.675" taller than stock)
These are on Factory Option Isuzu 6 spoke 7 x 16 Aluminum wheels.

215/70R16 rubbed SLIGHTLY at full turn both ways (2" taller than stock)
215/65x16 would clear (1/2" shorter), but when repairing some rust from a coolant leak, I opened-up the zone a bit.

New rear tires are 245/75x16 (30.5" = 4.675" over stock)
Run the numbers to see effective final drive ratio is roughly 3.46:1 & quiet on the freeway.

Oddly, I could feel the extra drag with the wider tires in front - especially on our sand road.[/img]

On these trucks i like wheels that give the truck a wide stance and tires at an appropriate width to have a
pleasing wheel to tread appearance. My wheels are 15".

Ok, a few more shots. I ordered a U POL Raptor spray in bed liner and shot the truck earlier this week. It turned out really well, but I think I may order another kit for the added thickness, but it looks good and seems pretty tough.

The truck looks good.
Bare in mind, since it only has a single wall bed, the wall is easily dinged by stuff in the bed going from side to side.

Recently i found inner walls from a 1984 and installed them in my 1982. I like.

Body work is a lot of hard work, and the deeper you go and the more involved you get the longer it takes and the more it costs.

last time I did mine was back in 98, but I pulled the bed, dissasembled and removed the doors, fenders and hood and pulled the king cab windows. then used PPG paint, a 92 mitsubishi 3000GT SL, called Passion Red. the paint has really held up well over the years, but time to redo it again.

I stumbled on a complete NOS Nissan front end still in the nissan boxes. fenders, hood, grill, bumper and corner lights for $150. got rid the those stupid 82 fake hood grills.

Those 82 tail light assemblies are next to impossible to find.

These 720 PU`s are a simple, basic little truck, and simple to maintain. the SD engine is a very dependable engine, and with a little maintenance her and there will last a loooong time.

Because plastic bed liners are no longer available for our trucks, i am considering a spray in bed as well. Did you use bed liner or undercoationg? Oreillys has a pretty good selection.

Whatever you do, dont buy the herculiner or duplicolor from orieleys. Ive used them both and while they work, this experiment turned out looking proffesional. To say Im pleased with the results is a severe understatement!
