Idle revs drop when hot.

hey.

i've fitted a LD28 into my old datsun 330, 280C.
converted from the original petrol engine and autobox to the diesel and 5 speed manual.

standard fuel tank, i just removed the electrical fuel pump and small filter and fitted a diesel filter/lift pump in the engine bay.

starts, and runs well. i had the injector pump rebuilt due to it leaking badly.

i refitted the pump but i've guessed the timing as it was pretty loud knock on the standard timing marks, so i backed it off a little.
still fairly knocky, but unsure if thats just due to lack of sound deadening on the bulkhead.

anyways.

it has a manual "choke" but doesn't really need it as runs ok when cold. idles fine when warm too, but if driving hard or at high speed and then slowing down for traffic or to stop, the idle drops very low/runs rough and nearly stalls.

ideas?

The fuel pump on my car have a coolant temp regulated thing that controls the idle depending on the engine temp. Could be bad adjusted on your car?

Could be the injection timing. Did you install a new IP timing belt? If so you can set the timing by aligning the timing marks on the IP hausing and engine block. That will set the timing quite correct. Otherwise you have to go through the whole timing procedure (3-4 HRS). Search for "IP Timing"
Engine knocking (and smoke) is normal when you messed with the fuel and there is some air left in it. It took 30min to about an hour to eliminate all air when I did the swap in my Astro.
