Broken Smoke Set Screw...

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Broken Smoke Set Screw...

#1

Post by Driftwood »

I got my injectors rebuild and went to adjust my smoke set screw and it broke with very little force. I imagine that it was already fractured somehow.

Does anyone have a clever solution to this? I know there is a spring and a pin inside. I was thinking I may have to go to a machinist to have one made up for me. Perhaps someone has a cannibalized inline type pump lying around that could spare the smoke set screw?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks!

That kinda/really sucks. Not sure of a solution for that.
Perhaps a pump re builder has one lying around.
I'm not that certain as how that screw is configured on the inside and if it can be simply screwed all the way out to remove it or if there is something on the inside that
#1 May prevent it from coming all the way out or
#2 Will "disengage" with something on the inside. ( really really sucks )

Good Luck

I am sure there is an exploded view of a fuel pump on here somewhere that may show just whats involved in changing this.

Yes, that's the screw. Ended up obtaining one from Wayno in Vancouver.

Thanks Al,
