Automatic timing device for injection pump?

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Post by Slownsteady98 »

I have a 720 with an sd22 in it, i recently seen an ad for an automatic timing advancedevice that fits the injection pump and i was wondering if anyone else has heard of this or if it is an aftermarket product or if the engine came stock with them in
Any help would be appreciated thanks

I think they came with one already, I believe the RPM controls the timing.
I know the voices are not real,
but they have some really good ideas.

I really did not think about this, I do not know where you are, the SD22 engines that we had in the USA had inline injection pumps with variable timing(springs on the gear) while others in some other countries had VE type pumps(rotory) with a solid gear, the VE pump controlled the timing another way, it depends on where you live and what type of injection pump you have, do the injection pump lines point straight up out of the pump or do they come out the back of the pump towards the oil filter and then turn upwards?

I'm in canada, the fuel lines come straight up from the top of the pump

OK, that is an inline injection pump and I believe it already has the gear with the springs that automatically control the timing.
