New to SD25

Hello all, I bought my '87 kingcab SD25 back in December. Just getting used to it. I was reading some posts yesterday about servicing, etc. Very glad to finally find this site. Thanks in advance for all your help and instruction. My truck had 385000km on it and many more to come.

Would you mind editing you Profile (select "Profile" at the top of any page) and adding your geographic location? It'll save lots of time later, I assure you.

For the same reason, you may want to put your truck's info in your Signature block (same page). That way, in future posts people won't have to remember what your truck is, and you won't have to field answers about the SD22, when you have an SD25

I assume you are in Canada? If so, you are the third member here with that rare beast, the D21 diesel, which if I have it correct was only available in Canada in 1987.

Thanks for the welcome. I've updated my profile. Yup, it was only available in '87. My Dad had an '84 back in the '90's and I saw this one and figured I'd give it a shot. The body is really rough, but the drive train is good. I did the clutch and pilot bearing in January, so I'm sitting pretty now.

Well, it's been a bit of a project so far, but not too bad. Mostly, I like to have a service manual for when I do have to fix astuff. So far I been flying blind. It's been working, but that can only go on for so long.

I don't know if you'll be able to find an applicable FSM for your rig (D21 and SD25). I suggest that, for most of the engine and engine electrical, you purchase a US-spec 1986 FSM (which, I admit, seem to be fairly expensive on eBay and such). That will likely be "good enough" for much of the engine, though not for the chassis. Then pick up a 1987 FSM for the chassis.

find a 87 manual.........and you have struck gold!..........after oil says he has a climer.....that is worth lookin into!

p.s..........look at the tranny oil.......like a circle fly........don't lose it! to lack of maitenance as we will all tell you. the input bearing likes to go, and is easy to change.................befor it gets you

I did the input bearing right after I got the truck. Had to do the clutch anyway, so what better time, eh? As for the oil, I'll keep an eye on 'er. thanks.
