It was painfully slow this morning. Restarting MySQL didn't help, which has been the usual fix in the past. I tried to restart the Apache service, and the service hung, so that was it. Rebooted the entire box, and now it's speedy again.

I think I tried to automate restarting Apache before and was unsuccessful at a 100% reliable restart. Maybe I'll look at that again after work today.

Pretty early start for you. 0430 on a Sunday morning.

These days, I'm up at 3:40am five days a week, and Sunday is one of them.

It is very fast now, came right up without any waiting, thankyou AL!!!!

I've implemented a kill/restart process for the web server (httpd) that will kill off the service at 0001 (a minute after midnight) every night, and restart it. The database (mysqld) has been set up this way for a couple of years, at 0002 daily. Let's see if restarting httpd every night helps with the occasional slow page loads we've seen.

Fast this morning at 0620 to log on AL.

Navigating around once inside seemed to take a bit of time. Switching from one topic to the other takes a while to open.

Not sure if its site issue or ISP issue at my end.

Just for an FYI

Inadequate testing: the script to kill httpd would run from a CLI but not from cron -- fixed (I hope).

Not sure of what you refer to above but I know it's nice and speedy to log on and navigate around this morning at 0750

I haven't been able to reproduce that here. I've tried several times over several days.

If you find this happening again, would you PM me with links to a representative topic -- one that's slow to load?

It's a lot better now, when before it took 5 minutes to load a page, it now takes 2 seconds, it's great!

On 05Dec, 2014 the server failed to complete a maintenance reboot, ten minutes before I had to leave to catch a flight out of the country.

It failed in a non-intuitive way and required a bit of research and consultation to determine the best course of repair, and I accomplished those while away. I was able to repair the problem (corrupt OS2.INI or corrupt OS2SYS.INI) by using backup copies.

The forum's data was never in danger.
