Help ID a 97 MD21 truck engine

SD diesels were widely available in the US in the 1981-86 Datsun/Nissan 720 pickups, and in Canada through '87 in the D21 pickup.

Can anyone ID this engine in a gray market 1997 MD21 pickup?

Any idea of best place to buy parts, looking for oil filter at the moment.

The VIN tag also list: C.T.A. 72/09

I do not recognize that engine. It is not an SD series engine as it appears to have a crossflow style head.

It may be a TD27 but I cant be certain. They made them in both Turbo and Natural.
That truck must have come from someplace outside of NA, or at least outside Canada and the US.

If it is a TD 27 Fram lists a PH4738 filter but, as stated, I don't know for certain what that engine is.

There are likely cross-references for a better quality filter than Fram but it will give you a starting point.

It's likely new enough you may even be able to get one from NIssan.

Good luck

Sorry you had to wait 2 weeks. I just saw this today.

Problem with being retired is that you never get a day off.
